Are you planning on playing games on it?

It sounds like you are - in which case check the GPU benchmarks

Tbh im prob not planning on doing any hardcore gaming on it just light, but reason im looking at this laptop is because gaming laptops last forever and are super quick at things like CAD, and gives me the option to do some gaming in the future if I want to.

For the price this is a pretty decent spec. But you may still have to purchase a hard drive and install it internally unless you are prepared to use an external one. For CAD you will almost certainly need 16GB RAM. Bottom line is that you may need to spend another couple hundred pounds.

I always say this but, If somehow you could find it cheaper with a decent quad core i5 processor then that would be even better. Unless of course you need the extra power.

As for the GPU, if you are a casual or semi serious gamer and also for CAD work then the it is fine. At HD resolution this card will do a very good job and with the i7 adding extra power.

Hmmm, apart from the processor this doesn't seem to be a fantastic laptop.

You need to look around and compare different offers.

I wouldn't call 2.2 kgs particularly portable.....
your paying a big chunk of cash in a gaming laptop for a gaming capable GPU....

First of all thank you for your response, why would I need to purchase a hard drive, it comes with a 128GB SSD and a 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA.

Okay lets say I've rethought my priorities and I'm looking for a laptop thats going to last long, excellent battery life, good screen (as ive read reviews on the omen 15 screen and its supposedly terrible), portable, has the capabilities of some light gaming if i choose so (so doesn't need a particularly good GPU) and is really snappy with every day use. Does anyone have any suggestions that come under £900.

For me I would say 2.2kg is acceptable, my current laptop the Dell XPS L701x weighs around 3.43kg probably more, its an absolute tank, actually got it from looking at a deal on this website about 5/6 years ago.

Nope. Not with the 1.2TB hard drive mate. I didn't look at the link, just your OP.

I travel a lot with work, I guess weight and battery life are my priorities with laptops. My work laptop is a HP 840 G1 and my own a 13" Macbook Pro retina. Both weigh just over 1.5 Kg's. Don't think I'd want to haul anything heavier than those around day to day...

Hi there, I've done a lot of research over the past few days and u can get this laptop from John Lewis with a 2year warranty for 925. It's definitely the best laptop for spec against value for money. Unless u want to go up to 1060 graphics and pay circa £1800 for the same battery life then u can't best this laptop. I will be buying one tomorrow from John Lewis and asking if they will give a 3 year warranty as they are doing with most of their other laptops. If anyone thinks there us a better performing laptop out there for less than 1k then please let me know but I just can't see it.

Have just double checked and realised that the John Lewis one is the hp Omen 15-ax205na so it's marginally different as has a gtx 1050 graphics card and not the 1050i so marginally lost performance but coming with a 3year warranty from John Lewis and at £70 cheaper I still think it's excellent value. Are there any other choices out there that people would recommend?

Hi, did you manage to get the 3 year warranty? Also where does the £70 cheaper come from?

Did you end up getting this (the 206)? I'm tempted and would be interested in your thoughts if you have bought it.

similar dilema here but with a smaller budget
finding a spec is one part, finding out if the screen is any good as well is another
would have tried for the omen (a lower one) but low for colour space coverage
with your budget have you considered a last gen dell xps refurb?
lower spec but the screens are amongst the best

I ended up getting the one from the hp website, they're doing a promotion atm for a free £100 Xbox controller so I'm just gonna sell it and it'll knock an extra £100 from the £900 ;)
