Laptop Wanted - Small & Light On A Budget

Hi all,

This is my first post, but have been reading the forum for a good 8 months ... so hello :)

I'm looking for a laptop for work to run word/excel etc. I'd like it to be as light as possible as I would be carrying it daily. Screen size under 15" if possible and at least 1gb of ram. I'd prefer either an AMD or pentium processor (Not celeron). Obviously it must be reliable & have a decent battery life & have XP. My budget is upto £600

Thanks In Advance

Most laptops unfortunately come with Vista these days, I did find this:

Acer TravelMate 3273WXMi
* Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66Ghz 667 FSB 2MB L2 Cache
* RAM: 1024MB DDR2-533MHz
* Hard Drive: 80 GB
* Screen: 14.1" TFT (1280x800)
* Optical Drive: DVD±RW Super Multi Dual Layer
* Graphics: Integrated Graphics supporting 128MB
* Wireless LAN: 802.11a/b/g
* Bluetooth: Bluetooth Enabled
* Weight: 2.4Kg
* Warranty: 1 Year - Upgradeable to 3 Years!
* Operating System: Windows XP Professional Edition
* Fast Ethernet 10/100

for £599.97, which is just within budget.

Alternatively if you'd consider a Mac and are a student they do hefty academic discounts meaning you can get a Macbook for £600.

Little bit over your price range, but good laptop and nice and small.

A touch over your budet, £61 over to be accurate. But is one hell of a laptop with the new santa rosa cpu.

I'd consider moving to XP if you are getting a laptop you want to use for over a year. No matter how much you try if you later want Vista on a laptop there will be a driver you just can't find. Much better to get used to the new operating system now. You can always pick up a COA and XP for around £15 and install that now, then use the reinstallation discs to go to vista when you are ready.

Hi all many thanks for the replies so far :)

The Sony looks about the best so far purely for its size. I think a 21.1" or 13.3" would be around the best size for me.

The Samsung is a great deal but its 15" and 2.7kg weight.

I'm Deffo not a student megalomaniac - I think a mac would totally confuse me lol

I've had a look on *that well known auction site :whistling: * and see a lot of Dell XPS M1210 laptops coming in at under £700 (approx £1200 for same spec on Dell website). Does anyone know of any trustworthy Dell Refurb sites?
