its time to replace my pc.
i've decided to go for the portability of a laptop.
anyone got any advice / recommendations on going for a laptop with larger screen. ie., a 17" screen instead of 15" ?

how does the battery cope with the extra screen size?
worth the extra cost?

thanks in advance.

would you be playing alot of games and watching movies?

neither really
on my pc i have a 19" monitor, and quite often have many windows open side by side.
on a 1024x768 laptop screen this isnt so easy.
i'm hoping a laptop screen with > 1400x? would be ok.

17" laptops are rarely all that portable, they're pretty heavy creatures unless you're spending a fortune. Any ideas on the price range you're looking at or what sort of features you want ideally? Any preference on OS? Unfortunately most laptops leave you stuck with Vista these days.

Worth it over a smaller/lighter laptop or a desktop? Personally I'd say no in both cases because they're each designed for different jobs and the attempts at a "best of both worlds" solution with many of the larger laptops doesn't cut it for me as they tend to be neither all that portable (as a laptop should be imho) nor all that great spec wise compared to a similarly priced desktop.

LaptopsDirect - hp business notebook 6715b £580 (less quidco and £100 cashback from HP) - 15.4" screen with amazing resolution - better than most 19" tfts - 1600 x 1050 (i think)
