depending on the size required, you may be better off getting a external hard drive.

personally I'd get 2 just to be on the safe side. I always use my memory, the last 2 I bought were posted on here recently 128gb less than £20 each. one was USB 2 one was USB 3. the speed does make a difference, depends if your in a rush.

Have you thought of using dropbox, google or amazon cloud services etc to save your pics onto , most of them offer a generous free allowance ....

just another tip don't, don't, don't buy off eBay. it may be fake, it will show up as 128gb. it will let you put 128gb on it, when you come to use it its not there.

+1 for the Grixx 128GB USB 3.0 sticks

I have 2 of these. They are fast, sturdy and cheap.

Also, make sure you keep at least 2 copies of everything (eg: USB stick and cloud or USB stick, computer and cloud).

Load them onto dropbox where there is plenty of free space

It's unlimited with Google photos. Do you have a android phone as you are using Dropbox rather than iCloud? If so you already have a Google account, if not create a Google account and upload all your photos to Google photos for free.

You can also set your phone up so any pics you take automatically got there too.

Just a suggestion..... as you may be in turmoil for a while, don't buy anything too small.... it may be more likely to get mislaid if you end up relocating etc.

Buy a normal sized stick that can easily be seen.

I've got a 128gb Lexar had it over a year, used daily for my TV shows. The previous Lexar before that is a 64gb thats used loads still as well. Both USB 3.0 cheap as chips now to what they did cost.
As mentioned be aware of eBay, so many fake Sd cards and sticks, I did a video on YouTube showing a fake one and hit 200k views lol. So many people must get ripped off daily

Lexar all the way. These are the best on the market I've used black sticky tape at the end so you don't see the blue flashing light http://www.everythingusb.com/mini-drives.html Use Flubit to get it cheaper or 5% if your with student prime.

Wow I'm blown over by all your help everyone. thanks so much again. :) yes I have android phone so might look into Google account.

I still like the idea of a memory stick too for additional backup, so I'll look into the lexar sticks as well.

My advise is don't separate with your partner you wouldn't need large USB stick

Don't use Google drive/photos, they compress the image and lower its quality.

I have a Grixx 64Gb USB 3 stick and it's the 2nd fasted usb stick I have. Only the Sandisk Extreme beats it by quite a bit, but then the Grixx works out cheaper by Gb than the Sandisk does by about half the cost.
