Hi guys,

after an office laptop that will run all office applications and be quick for web browsing.

i would prefer a newish i5, a smallish ssd (although not essential) and some decent ram as i want it to last a few years, in built graphics should suffice.

also i would like a decent screen preferably 1080p, as recently i had an asus budget laptop and the colours were washed out and horrendous, then i had a dell with an IPS panel where the colours looked good and the screen did not give out a reflection (IE looked matte if that makes sense)

edit: budget of around £500, thought there might be some good black friday week deals on?

cheers in advance

i have just seen this one, looks decent but low res screen? i would prefer an i5 to lower the price and have a better screen.

a friend also says that certain HPs are prone to overheating? cheers

The screen resolution has no impact on it's colours, quality, viewing angles, matt or glossy coating. The only thing it determines is how much stuff you can fit on it.

Having said that, 1920x1080 is seen as a more premium option (collateral damage from TV marketing probably) so is more likely to go together with a high quality screen even though there's no reason for it technologically.

There are lousy 1920x1080 screens out there though, so you really need to check reviews and make sure it's got good brightness and contrast if you want a good screen (sRGB colour space coverage helps too, but less so).

Good advice thank you, I read some reviews on the 510s and they seemed to give it an above average screen so I think I'll go with that pending any better suggestions..

This is a very good laptop for your purpose (web browsing and Office suite predominantly). If you use it out and about the battery life isn't as great as advised. Tests indicate 4.5-5 hours on light to moderate web browsing.
Also note Lenovo do deals for corporates so maybe check with your employer to see if they have any discounts. I've seen some employers offer as much as 15% off.
