Threaten to cancel and they'll do their best to keep you with a deal. Hopefully make it worth your while.

Officially probably not. You may see some "personal offers" within your Sky account. Sometimes they can be flexible if you speak to them. They will show the most flexibility if you are out of contract or soon to be about to be out of contract. You will be able to negotiate a better deal if you are able to quote a decent deal that a competitior is offering, or if you are a good negotiator, invent a reasonably plausible deal from a ficticious provider. The worst Sky can say is that they don't want to retain your business, which is highly unlikely.

Tell them it was faulty (which is why you bought the new one) and that it's since been discarded.

Current t&c indicates BT own the hub: "...BT-owned equipment – any equipment which we own or is part of our network,or any equipment that belongs to our service providers, even though it’s in your home. It includes the phone line and socket, the Openreach router (in the case of certain fibre broadband services) and any extra cabling we give you that doesn’t come with your hub...."
Might be cheaper to buy one from Gumtree / ebay to return, and assume they won't bother check any serial numbers?
#16
They may check. I have a live chat transcript now from them saying they won't charge me and it's logged under a complaint reference number, so whether or not this covers me I don't know?

See the post over day? Ukhd it. Sky cancel. They've out their line rental up and offering customers free of charge to get out of contact. Offered me 38 Mbps fibre for same price I was paying for adsl! RING SKY AND SPEAK TO RETENTIONS BEFORE IT TOO LATE!
