When you open the lid it automatically powers on the chromebook without hitting the on button, is this normal or do I need to exchange it for another one?

That is normal for a Chromebook. My Acer always turn on as soon as I open the lid.
From cold?

Yes. Even if it is fully powered off, it will boot up when you open the lid.

On a chromebook?
