Worth £220 second hand? I've been looking at a private advert as (not that kind) with an unlocked LG G5 in near mint condition.

In your opinion, does the phone compare to the S7 as a flagship, but if not is it still a very desirable phone spec wise?

I have the G5 and think it is a brilliant phone. The modules haven't really worked so dont buy it for that. The only other fault I could find was the gps was poor. Other than that camera is great and cant think of any other negatives!

I am an owner of one and it's a good phone. I have a spare battery and interchange everyday... the first battery lasts until around 5-8 pm depending on usage which isnt bad. The other thing is that I'm experiencing 'screen burn-in'. Other than that it's a good phone.

I got rid of my S7 because the rear camera smashed twice, it's a overheating issue, Google it. So I bought the LG G5, a much better phone in my opinion although the screen is not as vibrant, however in getting rid of this too mainly because of the GPS issue, there's loads of quick fix videos on YouTube which I have tried but I still have issues. I've now bought a moto Z play for £250 from Amazon Germany

I have a G5 and had an S7 Edge before it. I've swapped variously between them over the past year. Here are my observations:

The S7 and S7 Edge feel much more premium in the hand - the G5 feels no more premium than a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6.

The S7 and S7 Edge do not feel as fast to me in general use, even with Nougat. The Nougat update on the S7 though is much much more aesthetically appealing than LG's. It just seems to have more finesse. This is not something I ever thought I'd say about Samsung software (!).

The screen on the S7 and S7 Edge is better in my opinion - brighter, more contrast. The G5 screen is still decent though. Both devices increase contrast dynamically when in very bright light.

The S7 Edge is a pain for screen protectors. The only options really are 'InvisibleShield' style protectors, since the curved glass ones are basically naff and don't sit properly on the screen.

The G5 suffers image retention if you leave the same image on the screen for a while. This is not 'screen burn' as in my experience it disappears quickly.

The G5 has a much better loudspeaker than the S7.

The S7 Edge is waterproof and the G5 has no water resistance at all.

The G5 can be fairly easily fixed by a user with basic skills. Almost all internal components are modular and the device can very easily be disassembled. This is partly helped by the fact that it isn't waterproof and is handy if you are clumsy. You can easily find parts such as a replacement camera glass on eBay.

The G5 wide angle camera is great if you travel a lot, and good for creative portraits. The camera on the S7 focuses much faster and has better audio when video recording. Both are solid cameras.

The G5 has a user-replaceable battery, where the S7 effectively has to be sent to Samsung when the battery deteriorates. This might be a concern if you keep devices for a while. It's also useful to be able to swap batteries on the fly if you are a 'road warrior'

The G5 has USB C, where the S7 has the older non-reversible micro USB standard.

Both devices charge very quickly but the S7 has wireless charging if that appeals

The S7 seems to have faster and more reliable software updates. The latest security update for the G5 SIM free UK model is dated November, which is poor - even the Lenovo P2 is now on January's update.

Both devices have the same CPU and RAM as far as I remember.

My new LG G5 arrived today...I think it's a lovely looking phone, very smooth, nice screen... However I'm having to return mine as its faulty (i can only assume) as the phone is running extremely hot. Even when I'm not using it the phone is so hot its difficult to pick up and secondly the camera quality does not appear to be so good, on zooming in on a photo the quality is poor and my old Huwaei P8 took a better picture. Its a shame as personally i like the phone, it feels nice and the always on display is pretty neat to. I got mine from Sainsburys for £300.

I can recommend the G5. No problems with mine. Screen and GPS working great. Really fast phone. You can have a dozen apps open and it still flies.

Definitely faulty. No heat problems with mine. Get it replaced and give it another go.

Give it a while. Mine overheated after I set it up but it was settled down by the next day and never did it again.

i heard pretty bad things about the g5, GPS and some other things

I own one at the moment along with an iPhone 7 Plus. I don't perceive mine to have any issues I'd describe as pretty bad. What do I know though - Reddit is king.

Was your camera ok? Is there a way to fix the slightly bad picture quality? Thanks
