i don't mind train services, or changing trains if that works out to be cheaper

National Express will be cheaper but its a lot easier to go by plane once you get over the checks at airport etc.I went with Easy Jet last mth too from Gatwick to Glasgow. If you book with Easy Jet you get a link in email for 10% off Gatwick Express train if you need to get to Gatwick by train from Victoria.Thats what I did anyway,I had to get a bus anyway was on for 2 and half hrs so wasn't doing rest by National Express.

Which day on?? If you can go on the Thursday, firstgreat western have trains from Kings Cross to Glasgow during daytime for £37, with one train change (and that price is without using railcard, not sure if you have one)

oh and it takes about 5hrs 30mins

prestwick to stanstead is cheap, use internet check in and take only hand luggage. i got 2 adults, 2 kids for 30 quid, you have to use you switch card though or they charge a fortune to book with a credit card

First Great Western don't go to Glasgow.
The service from Kings Cross is with National Express East Coast, so going to their website will get you better prices.
Virgin do a service from Euston to Glasgow, but I find their trains to be very uncomfortable, and there's major engineering work taking place on that line.
