Just bought a Pioneer KRL-37V today. From the little use I've had so far I would recommend it but I'm going to have a bit more time to tweak it around a bit... Prices on this set have come down a bundle from launch, you'll be able to find one for under your budget with a 5 year warranty!

i take it thats a 37" i was really wanting something a bit bigger my chimney breast is where it is going and it measures exactly 50" so maybe 50" would be too big so maybe 46"

I guess the best thing is to work out the viewing distance to work out which will be the best screen for you. I'm sure you'd be able to fit a 50" screen with no problem as the screen is measured diagonally.

The Pioneer I have is a 37" but I guess you could say it is high end so it's nearer the top end! 46" and 50" you'll find quite a few models out there. I'd maybe veer towards a Panasonic Plasma as they produce some great tv's. Samsung and LG are also worth looking at.

Plasma are better value, offer better blacks, are better with SD. The new LED LCD's are quite good but they are expensive in comparison to Plasma's, although they are very good with HD, SD is hit and miss. For the size your looking at I would suggest looking at a plasma. Panasonic would probably be your 1st choice if you want good all round performance and quality.

As thehitman says the screen size is measured diagonally so a 50 or 52 should go nicely. Not if you're only sitting 3 feet away though!

If you can find one left in one of their stores here's a great 50" Pioneer plasma for a penny under the thousand -

If you can get one of these then you don't need to bother checking anything else out.
