Ideally im looking for something that will play my Blu Rays (using PS3) fairly well. Nothing too special, price is important.

this one looks good

Im looking for any of the top name brands (Sony, Panasonix, Pioneer, Samsung, Toshiba, etc, etc) at a similar price to this, but the cheaper the better.

Yeah the Panny urinates all over the JVC, Google some reviews mate. Also worth considering if you're looking at LCD's too are the Sony D3000's and latest Pioneer Plasmas are supposed to be good.

K thanks.
Im sure the Sony & Pioneers will be very expensive? I have a 50inch Pioneer that was 4 or 5 grand i think a year or 2 back now.

What would you go for the Panny or this Toshiba

Obviously im willing to pay a bit more for 1080p

But im not too knowledgable about this stuff, what is the major difference between 1080i & p? Is it worth paying the extra money for a tv that will be in the 2nd room (i.e. i will NOT have Sky HD on it, but might have the PS3 on it...)

Bottom line is the Panasonic is a better TV, and to get a Panasonic with 1080p support will cost you easily double that amount. Personally out of the two I'd have the Panny and swallow the lack of 1080p.....but then I don't have a PS3.

As for 1080p vs 1080i literally the only thing you'll be able to get capable of outputting 1080p for the foreseeable future is your PS3 or a Blu-Ray drive. Sky HD outputs 720p or 1080i and they have no plans to change that.

right thanks.
but if the main use for hd will be Blu Ray, shall i go for the Toshiba?

Your best bet is to find a shop that sells them and ask nicely to see them both hooked up to a 1080p source. The Panasonic will take a 1080p signal and downscale it to 1080i (not all 1080i TV's will). But you'd really have to see for yourself which you prefer and if you can tell the difference or think the difference is worth the extra.
