Looking for a nice non-dell laptop

Hi all,

Looking for a new laptop, as I've had to give back my Toshiba.

Looking for something with reasonable specs, but not that fussed about the biggest and best stuff.

For an example, I really like the Compaq V6630em, as sold by the DSG group (can't find anyone else who sells it!). I like that it is a really good looking laptop, so that's what I'm looking for. A laptop with a bit of style.

Looking to spend up to £400. The Compaq as mentioned above is that much, but they have just sold the last one at PC World, where I was planning on using student discount to bring the price down to £360.

Other laptops I really like are the smaller laptops (less than 14" screen), and would be willing to pay more for one of these, with similar specs to a larger model laptop.

Makes I really like are Sony, Toshiba, Compaq, etc. Makes I don't really like the looks of (generally) are stuff like Acer and Dell (though if it's nice looking, I wouldn't discount it).

Any help would be much appreciated. Currently browsing on my PS3, and it's a right PITA!

Oh, and I also like macs, but they're too expensive :(

Ha, was just gona say get a mac! :)

I don't particularly find them to be "too expensive". Sure, they cost more than a Dell but you get pretty decent specs (even with the cheapest model) and I've never had a problem with my Mac that wasn't sorted in a minute or less. Plus Apple are a very good company, any problems and they'll sort you out pronto.

I DJ with my Macbook out at least twice weekly. I know I couldn't do it on a non-Mac. So easy, so reliable. It's an investment! :)

(Sorry if that is NO help lol)

Yeah, I'd love a mac, but just at this time, I can't afford it, and not really wanting to wait. Plus yes, the specs are good, but not as good as you can get for the money. (Though the OS is worth the extra!)

Have you got anywhere that shows the proper specs of the macbook base model? It says core2duo, but it doesnt say what FSB etc etc... Want to compare it to other laptops for the price... Also, can you show me a laptop which would be a direct competitor for it?

Mac's are over-priced alleged style (look like they come from the Early Learning Centre to me) over substance.

Used one for a week, was very disappointed so I took it back . Very poor value for money IMHO..
