I have a C1760nw which has died one month after the warranty finished and Dell wont do a thing even though it broke down 10 months into the warranty and they replaced it with a recon unit that failed 3 months later.

Dells were mostly rebadged lexmark - which is junk.

As for a new one, how much do you use one?? Cheap models tend to have expensive and small toners that cost twice as much as the printer did.

More expensive ones are still quite expensive, and you dont start to see genuine refills that are a realistic price until you are spending over £500 - £1,000 on a machine.

If you are happy with refill kits and 3rd party generics, check carefully the make you want to buy allows them to work, there has been a big clamp down on 3rd party refills in recent years, I had to buy HP refill kits from China a few years ago, as HP had managed to get them blocked in Europe (and then doubled the price of the genuine ones).
Not sure what the current situation is, but I have heard of other makers fitting new sensor chips to stop refilling.
