Hey all,

Just a quick question. Do you think its possible to buy a Amd x2 4200 cpu(or equivalent), motherboard and 1gb of memory for around £100. if so, then where would I get these components.

Thanks. ;-)

p.s Are there any further drastic dual core price cuts within the next month or so?

Hello mate.

As stated above, you will struggle for £100. Stretch to £140 and your away.

Just had a quick look on Ebuyer myself and they have the 4600 for less than £2 more than the 4200. The AM2 X2 4600 is just £69.25 delivered.

Add 1gb ram at about £40 (again just going off my head over the last few weeks prices), and maybe a cheap motherboard for about £30 or so.

All in all your looking at £130+ for the setup you want mate.

Hopefully we'll see some nice price cuts, if not then ill go for the option stated by berman1. :D

Does anyone know what Intels equivalent of the AMD x2 4600 is?

oh on another note, has anyone seen any of the latest amd (ati) graphics cards on sale or on pre-order. I noticed that eclipse computers are selling Nvidias midrange geforce 8 series.

It's about midway between the e6300 and the e6400.

As stated above on the AMD 4600, it is very close to the e4300/6300, but personally at stock I would not put it in the same league as the e6400.

Bang for buck with the massive price reduction with AMD they are now as good if not better than the equivalent Core 2. I am talking about stock levels here, if your into overclocking then obviously Core 2 are quite simply out of this world.

Considering the curent market fluctuates so so much then every week is a different scenario.

Did I read somewhere that the 4600 was being..or has been.. discontinued?... if so then I expect the current ebuyer price is the best price....also wise to split your order with ebuyer as you'll get the £10 googlecheckout deal on each purchase over £30...OK you may have to pay super saver postage but you'll still make considerable savings.
