Looking for: Netbook

Hallo.

I am looking to buy my wife a netbook for our anniversary.

She really only uses it for youtube (most of all), MSN messenger, facebook, hotmail (so internet stuff) and occasionally plays some minor games (like Gamehouse stuff) and rarely though needs to have Microsoft Word.

She is also quite accustomed to Windows XP. I guess she could get used to Windows 7 (if need be) but not Ubuntu or Linux.

I'm not sure what spec I need. HDD doesn't need to be huge, 20gb or so would probably be ample. I do think 1gb RAM is essential though as well as Wifi and 6-cell battery. I'm not too concerned with 10 inch or 8 inch unless someone has any recommendations either way.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be looking for? Are there any suitable deals out there? Are Samsungs really that much better than say, Acer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I must add, I'm not in a big rush. Our anniversary is in December which is when I want it for. I am also looking to spend around the £200 mark.

Sounds really cheap but on account of not really having enough to go into town, would rather buy it online!!

This one seemed decent, though only a 3-cell battery. Any thoughts from anyone?

[FONT=Verdana]A Dell Netbook for £99.00p! That can't be right - you sure about the price there?

Edit - It's not a Dell Netbook, it's actually a very basic web browser with Windows CE so unfortunately it doesn't meet the OP's requirements.

[FONT=Verdana]From what I've read of them I would say the Samsung is the better deal - you might want to consider checking out the reviews for both netbook models via the user communities for them but also reviews done by online websites & also magazines as well.

Thanks, sounds good.

Do you think I should buy now or wait say, a month in case it drops in price?

[FONT=Verdana]My thinking would be to buy now because the netbooks coming out with Windows 7 Starter Edition are more expensive than those with Windows XP Home Edition - there are some slight increases in hardware, mostly a larger hard disk, but that's pretty much it until the new Atom CPU models are released (this year & next) along with the higher-range graphics cards, which will be expensive based upon articles & posts out there.

[FONT=Verdana]I tell you what - why don't you pop in past your nearest PC World, Dixons or Currys to try them out; at least that way you get a better idea on how they are visually but also for typing on and using the trackpads on them.

You don't think Windows 7 will cause these XP models to drop in price? By the way, is there any real downside from Windows XP Pro (I have on my desktop) to XP Home?

I used an Acer Aspire One today, a colleague of mine had one, screen seemed good and enjoyed using it! Screen didn't seem too small at all! But it did have a 6 cell.
