Hello all, I'm looking for some recommendations for a family holiday for 2 adults 2 children, I've never had a holiday and I'm 47 so looking for somewhere like Spain or Portugal, hopefully close to airport, close to beach, with things to keep the kids entertained, also to do some sightseeing and night life, hopefully where I can hire a car also. looking at 13th Aug for 7 nights, any recommendation greatly appreciated

I have just come back from a holiday to Gran Canaria with my children 14, 12 & 7. Only booked it the day before we left as I was ohhing and arring about where to go etc as I have never been to Europe only usa. Really lovely resort the Cay Beach Princess Maspalomas, lovely big pools, your own little bungelow (we went catering but you can pay for board). Lots of day trips out only thing it's about 5/10 minutes away from beach (they do camel rides in the moving sand dunes) but they do a shuttle service as well. Taxis really cheap a few Euros but I would say that it can work out quite expensive as the Euro is low at the moment and if you eat out a lot etc :)

Where can you fly from, how old are the children & what board would you prefer.

I can fly from all London airports, kids are 9 and 13 and I don't mind self catering if it works out the cheapest

Isn't Ibiza a party place, would not be suitable for family holiday, I could be wrong as I've never been

Tenerife is great for a family holiday, great weather lovely beaches , water sports, family attractions such as loro Parque animal park, the Volcano Mt Tedie and a large waterpark to name but a few , Los Cristiano's( Quieter ) or Las Americas (More lively area) are not to far from the airport and within walking distance of each other. If your thinking of hiring a car and don't mind a slightly older higher mileage mode Auto Reisen has some good deals.
Notice "ellenw" ( first comment) has already shown a deal at Los Cristiano's for the dates you require

Any greek island. Lots of history, Kos is good Also look at all inclusive, kids can try different foods, if they dont like it they can get something else, all drinks are free, so no problem with cola, lemonade etc getting warm or wasps in them. Just get what you need then more when you want it. Normally lots of free activities and entertainment. Turkey is also nice, but some people avoiding it due to terrorism and refugees. But great place and cheaper than greece.

I would say go with Majorca or Tenerife. Family friendly & not too far to travel.
Both are beautiful islands with loads to do. Both have good water parks for the kids.

I'm currently in Sa Coma Majorca at the moment, it's got lovely beaches, shallow sea great to paddle swim in. Recommend it, it's also usually fairly cheap to Majorca. Went in October too.

I've been Gran Canaria too, that's cheap depending on time of year. It's moderate all year as are all Canary Islands. Benidorm and Solou are great for families too with port aventura theme park close to the latter.

Been to Ibiza was very quite in the north of the Island got a little bored there tbh but still lovely.

Been to Bondrum and Mammaris in Turkey beautiful Country but wouldn't risk it now. Went over to Kos for day trip didn't rate it much, looked abit rundown, lots of beggars etc.

certain parts of Ibiza are a party area...where we go in es cana or cala llonga or Santa euluria are beautiful places in Ibiza and very family friendly.
