looking for wireless broadband, is AOL any good?

Hi, my router gave up on me the other night and my pc is very old and decrepid so im looking at getting a new pc, laptop or desktop. I wasnt planning on a new pc just yet but thought id take this opportunity to just do it. Is the deal that the carphone warehouse offer for wireless broadband with free laptop a good deal since it would mean not having to fork out for a pc which i would strugle to do at the moment. Or would i be better off paying out for a pc and taking a connection through someone else. I currently have a bt line and i am with talk talk for my calls. I think this would mean going to aol for my call charges but at 19.99 per month its better then the £23 i pay at the moment.
any advice would be most gratefully recieved as i havent a clue!!!

Wouldn't touch AOL.

Just switched from Sky to O2 and have to say the communication from them and the service so far is excellent.

The only reason i thought about AOL was because they do the 'free' laptop offer, does anyone else do a similar deal? My mobile is with 02 so i could probabbly get a decent price for their broadband i suppose.

Well, laptop is not the best spec for offer,£15 for delivery,u will be tied up to 24 months contract,40 GB download limit,so not the best opt for me.And AOL internet speed is really slow.
Unless u need a new low spec laptop-dont go for it.

I am sure talktalk themselves do a similar offer and as u are already with them try and find out about packages available such as the free broadband one.
they know any other isp will try and steal their phone business as well so they might do u a deal

Aren't they also doing a new PS3 free for new Customers? I've been with AOL for 9 years and have never had any issues and even though I live in a remote village, my broadband speed is very good.

I'm with talktalk - got free unlimited landline national and international (to quite a few countries not all) and broadband for £20 a month. I've never had a problem with it!

There is no need to install the AOL software on your machine as long as you do not connect your router via USB.

I have been using AOL - software free for 2 years with no problems whatsoever.

It's a free laptop or ps3, i have no need for a ps3 as i have a wii and it would be quite good to be able to connect it to a wireless network.

Yes, Redten Internet do a combined PC and internet package as well, with options for laptops or desktops.

Although when I checked AOL a few months ago you ended up paying more for the broadband and laptop combined than you would if you bought comparable ones seperately. (the difference was about £20 I think).

I have been with a few and was on the 29.99 per month AOL deal (i had no software installed at all as i feel it makes my system bloated and slows it down)
anyway i would say connection for me was always there but they do traffic shape/ limit speed at busy times see under link
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/caps.htm
I phoned them up and complained about not getting all the free stuff new customers are getting and now im getting a ps3 and also a modem router
you can also take your phone through them which they say is cheaper than bt (please check the small print first though as i have been done by this before with another company (some number calls are much cheaper but some end up being more)
as i was already on AOL same email and no need to get cut off or look for mac code..
the only way i was on aol was because they never stopped me with downloads no matter how much i downloaded
but maybe that was because there was no limit when i sighned up or and fair use (which came in a bit later)
but i notice on my new 2 year deal there is a 40 gb limit
hope some of this helps and if you need help setting up your router without aol software just post here and i will guide you through it no problem
regards

I'm with AOL and HATE them with a passion. The only reason I stay is because they offer free access tel numbers for using my laptop abroad. Feeble reason for staying, I know. But saves me a great deal of money.
