Hi,
I'm building a new machine and need a graphics card. I won't be gaming but I watch a lot of bluray films and I play using MadVR codec. So looking for something that won't cost me a leg and an arm but at the same time still be some what decent quality. Also just got a new 4k tv so will need 4k capability.

I am currently looking at these 2 cards, which one would you recommend or none of these at all?

Yeah no worries. I mean even if it turns out the 530 isnt strong enough something like a cheap 30 quid dedicated graphics card would do it. Certainly no need for that 1050 youve ordered.

I'm not familiar with MadVR. I just use SharkCodecs with my VLC Media Player :| I may be light years behind but from what I can assume about GPU, forget the 950. Just get one 1050ti, it's around £140ish and is probably faster than two 950s

would this one do?

Again I'm not going to be doing any gaming or video editing. Just mostly movie playback with some medium to high settings.

Most benchmarks done on cards are games and less popular uses can often have dramatically different results so it's hard to tell what would work best with MadVR.

I would stick with the latest RX 460/GTX 1050 models for the HEVC Main10 decoding if nothing else.

Cheers for that.

So the link that I provided above for the 1050 card, is that a good one? Will any gtx 1050 card be fine? or do I have to go after a specific brand/variant of it?

It is a good card, in between gtx 960 and 970 it will be wayyyyyyyyy more than enough for your 4k video playback, and also 1080p gaming on high/ultra if you want to aswell.

I'm building a new machine. looking to get an i5. I asked here and on other forums, everyone was recommending to get the gtx 750, gtx 960 and gtx 1050.

I watch movies using MadVR codec so like to turn up the settings to get the best picture.

I can still cancel it as its on pre-order. Do you have any suggestions?

Well if your getting an i5 or i7 with a igpu you can just use the onboard graphics processing unit to use your pc if your literally just browsing internet or watching movies. The onboard igpu on new i5 and i7 are not bad iirc and can even play some steam games on low settings.

can the onboard intel 530 play 4k without any issues?

The specificationa for the i5 6600k state the 530 supports up to [email protected] over displayport. So can it be done? yes. Does it run smooth? I dont know. Best to google other peoples experiences with it and see if it works. My gut feeling is it will run it no problem. The most important thing seems to be to ensure your motherboard and monitor are both capable of running the required setup (displayport etc).

Sorry i kinda took you down a different path without giving a definitive answer. I just didnt want to see someone wasting £150 on a graphics card that is not going to be used since your not doing any gaming.
