Me and my wife are visiting LA in October for 9 days. We definately want to visit Universal Studios and Six Flags theme park, but what else should we do?
Also, whats the best way to buy the tickets? Universal are offering 2 days for 1 when buying online, and Six Flags are offering 2 for 1 when bought online. Are these the best deals to get?
I was thinking it may be better to buy through the hotel when we arrive as we'll need travel to the parks as well.

Any advice welcomed,

Many Thanks

Universal lot was badly damaged by a huge fire a few weeks ago so may not be fully open, even by October. Back to the Future was amongst parts destroyed if I remember correctly.

Hi,
I've been LA before and there are a number of places you can go specially 9 days - even take a trip to San Diego or cross the border to Tijuana for a day (best if you have a hire car).
Rather than list the places etc here are a few links for FREE travel guides, download and print off.
http://www.arrivalguides.com/en/archive.php - LA is a listed guide as are many other places.
http://www.arrivalguides.com/en/beach.php - if you know beach names then this will give you further ideas.
http://www.hostelworld.com/pdfguides.php - compact and full of info these guides are quite good.

PS with regards to buying tickets - pick up free leaflets, magazines at the airport , hotel, shops etc etc and flick through them for discounted vouchers and also further ideas where and when to go.

My wife and I went to Warner Brothers Studios a few years back. The was better than Universal as it's a working studio. We saw the sets for ER with the extras waiting outside for the calls, walked into the houses and more. We also saw preparation for the remake of the Posidon adventure. Whist in the cafeteria, which serves the best chicken ceasar salad I've eaten, we saw them setting part of the the cafeteria up for a scene from the West Wing. We also got to speak to some of the extras used for lighting and sound checks. We also had the opportunity to see a live recording of a comedy show with free pizzas, drinks and sweets. All in all a very good overview of a working studio and one of the highlights of our stay in LA. Look up Warner Brothers on internet for more info.

Another place worth visiting is the Santa Monica beach area.

Hope this helps

We also drove down to Long Beach on a Sunday and had a Champagne brunch on the old Queen Mary. All you can eat and drink including the champagne ( which I had to refuse further tops ups as I was driving)

Alternatively to the above FREE guides, pocket guides from
Berlitz and DK are very good
As are Baedaker guides (which include maps)

long beach is lovely and not too far from Anaheim where Disney - (the original Disney and my favourite) is
also depending on if you have children with you I love Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz, certainly worth a visit

Try the Getty Centre - monorail, fabulous architecture, gardens, paintings, sculpture, artifacts and easily the best panoramic views of the whole city. All for free, apart from car parking.

If culture isn't for you, worth going anyway, just to take in the stunning views, a very reasonably priced lunch and much needed fresh air.

Thanks for your suggestions, I will look into all of them,

Many Thanks to Champs for the guides, I have read through them and will probably print them off to take with me.

What kind of offers are available for park tickets when I get there? I dont want to get there and regret not buying tickets in advance.

Many Thanks all.
