I lost my wallet earlier, is there anything extra I can do to stay on the safe side other than cancelling cards etc?

Hey, just lost my wallet earlier today, it had £20 in it and my second bank account card which has no money in it at the moment, and no overdraft option on that card either, but I will still cancel it. It also had my license which I can get a replacement for, so is there anything else I can do to stay on the safe side and not have someone stalk my home or something ridiculous like that? Haha (license has address on it).
Oh, and has anyone in this situation ever taken any measures to find their wallet? Is there anyone I can contact other than the police, or are there any sites I can visit? (For those wandering, I dropped it near Holbrook Lane, Coventry, next to the Subway store).
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Well if it had your license in it, maybe a good Samaritan will post it to you or drop it through your letterbox if they're nearby!?? ;)

I really hope so, I'm at work till 7, so I just hope I get home and see my wallet lying on the floor. My house is really close to the place I lost it too..

Check bushes and bins where you lost it , someone might have just taken the £20 and lobbed it , or it might be through your letterbox -believe it or not there are still honest folk around . Also worth asking in the Subway store, someone might have handed it in there thinking you dropped it on the way out .

Oh, I'm a numpt, forgot to mention that I asked the Subway people if I could check a camera feed, and they said they can show me once they get the footage on Monday, so I'll be heading over there with my receipt on Monday if all isn't fixed by then, I have a SMALL feeling I may have left it on the counter out of sight from the Subway workers, and a customer walked in after me and pulled a sneaky one. I will check the bushes and bins though, that's a very good idea, I may head down there after work to have a look.

How do you know where exactly you lost it and not have it? Did you drop it and casually sidle away as it had been contaminated by floor germs?!

Haha, well I ordered a sub and remember having it there last in my hands, I ordered with card so I took out my card and after paying for it, lazy me decided to stick the card in my pocket and put it in my wallet later, as I'm walking with the carrier bag down the road, I remembered to put my card back in to my wallet, and boom, no wallet. I must have been walking for about 5 minutes before I realized, so I ran back, and asked around, and couldn't find it. Tragic :( lol

Jeez, would absolutely be gutted if I lost that much, since it's only £20 I don't mind as much, I'd rather someone just take the £20 and give me the wallet and the contents of it back, was a nice wallet too haha

Unfortunately if you get it back it will probably be minus £20! I never carry my licence just incase I lose my house keys at the same time.

I lost a purse once at Asda and someone handed it in intact. I also once found a purse on a plane with 100 euros and a card in it. I contacted their bank they contacted the customer and i posted it to them. She sent me flowers as a thank you :)

I would honestly not mind that, I just want my wallet back haha

Just a small thread update on the whole situation, I've gone back to the place where I 'think' I lost it, and gave it a second look in bushes and 'darker' places where someone may have ditched it, but couldn't find it. So I called the police to let them know that my license has been lost so they can keep it off the records, and the lady told me to wait until Monday until I can see the CCTV tapes at Subway as if someone did in fact steal it and it is on camera I would have to put a case in, so i'll just have to wait until I order a replacement license I guess (I highly doubt I left it in Subway tbh but we'll see).
Since the weekend is coming up, I just hope it's in the hands of a good samaritan that's waiting until they knock on my door and shock me! But that's just wishful thinking haha.

I was, Both times, The first time I had only just withdrawn £250 and it was for an holiday, Luckily had enough to still enjoy our holiday. The second time I was more gutted because it had an obituary cut out of my grandma who had died a year earlier. I didn't care about the money. I take extra care now lol.

tip for the future

never carry your driving licence around with you as it contains everything a fraudster needs to clone your identity

You must live somewhere where people are VERY honest! My son has lost his driving licence numerous times (both in wallets and without) and despite having the address on the licence they have never been returned. He has also lost more Blackberries and iPhones than I care to count (bit of a theme here? (_;) ) and although 'home' was clearly listed under numbers and we have repeatedly called them they have never been returned, not once! (No comments about his carelessness, please....he is a complete numpty, especially at the weekends :p!)

OP - long shot (never worked for us, but it doesn't cost anything) but why don't you post on the lost and found section of your local Gumtree?
#20
I'll give that a shot, thanks!

I hope you get it returned. My daughter lost her purse, it wasn't handed in to police, she was gutted - then a few weeks later her driving licence was posted to her - she nearly freaked out in hysterics ..... I tried to explain that getting it back was a good thing, not a bad thing ..... no sign of her purse or cash tho.

Dad found a wallet in a shopping car park at night shopping with mum and my sister about 5 years ago it had £200, ID, Passport and flight tickets for the following day in it. Dad locked the wallet in his car and carried the ID with him until mum spot the women inside the store with staff on call for paramedics has she could not breath knowing she had lost her wallet, finally dad approached and asked if she had lost anything, she said yes dad then showed the ID and said i have your wallet in my car she jumped up a gave him a big hug.

I hope you get your's back

Good Luck

I lost my wallet a few months ago with just random cards in plus my Barclays card but no ID. Later that day I received a call from barclays about 2miles from where I dropped it saying my wallet has been handed in.

The area I dropped it, was really rough and did not know who gave it in.
