Which do you prefer? I'm holding an evening ramadan meal for some friends, wanted to know which 'date' would be best.

moon city, go to your local Asian stores they should have a variety, a few shops will have the big 5kg boxes, find out and take a look at the dates. the big jumbo ones are usually nice and juicy but they are fairly expensive .

I've heard about that, not sure how that would help. it is probably best to buy directly from the farmer / grower for any produce

the one from the West Bank are the best, fairtrade or farmer association products tend to be more ethical

moon city do a few different types I had the black box last year and they were lovely. could only find the cream and green box this year in morrisons I think but they didn't look half as nice as the ones I had last year. check on their website it tells you what the difference is.

Last time I had a date, I munched on something moist, soft and tasty. Can't remember the brand but wouldn't recommend picking it up from tesco

Always open the date and check inside before eating. Dates are known to have insects in them
