The wife is doing my head in. Her friend at work has a Tempur memory foam mattress and is raving about it, so my wife now wants one. I took a look at the price of a king-size and couldn't believe how expensive they are.

Anyway, I've had a look around the internet and have found to makes that are around half the price of a Tempur mattress. These are Ergoflex and Eve. So my question is which is best?

Tempur use unusually dense foam so most other memory foam mattresses will feel a little different.

Whichever one you can try and determine that you like locally. Buying a mattress unseen can be an expensive mistake.

Tempur is just a name. Had few of them on 30 day free trial and can tell you - they are real crap; too soft and and you will be sweating in summer time like a pig. Try before you buy....

We've all got Ergoflex at home and have had for years, really good mattresses. Can't comment on the Eve ones.

Pop into Ikea and try their Morgedal mattress, it's a Which Best Buy at £165, then tell your wife's friend how amazing brilliant it is , and SUCH good value for money it is, as you can now have that third holiday with the money you saved...

You're welcome

These are best I have tried and you have 30 day home trial, so if you don't like it- just return.

No it isn't. They do manufacturer their own distinct mattresses using different foam rather than rebranding or assembling from off the shelf memory foam.

Personally I wouldn't touch any memory foam mattress with a barge pole. I prefer springy foam mattresses rather than the dead and unresponsive feel of memory foam.

Tempur comes in many varieties from soft to rock hard. I got a hard one in sale a few years ago and its been the best buy ever. I tried cheaper brands but within two years they sank in the middle and were good for nothing. You need to spend some time at a bed shop and try out the varieties of a Tempur, take your shoes off and lie down, try turning as well as that can be difficult if your not used to memory foam in the beginning. Check softer ones and harder ones. Once you both decide what thickness suits you then you search the internet for a deal on the type you want. Mine should have been £1000 in a shop but I got it for around £500 of Ebay. Everyone has different opinions on what mattress suits them so its up to the individual. If you still cant afford a Tempur see if there is a "medical" mattress shop anywhere near you that make mattresses to order, often they will have a "second" that will be really cheap and you wont notice the defect at all. Mine had 1cm of foam missing on the corner which is covered by a sheet. If you find it warmer change to Egyptian cotton bedding and not polycotton as that will be cooler, frankly dont notice it with mine but maybe I am too used to it. Beware of cheaper makes as many are not what they claim to be and are plain foam with 2 cms of memory foam glued on top, the mattress should not of two materials at all.

I have Ergoflex 5G mattress for 4th year now and love it. Tempur not worth the money.

Look mate, I have tried them and they are FAR WORST than other memory foam 5X cheaper mattresses.
But I like and use old style spring style orthopaedic mattress which gives me best comfort.

Not liking them is a completely different thing than them just being a name.

firstly have u tried memory foam before in theory it sounds very good but I don't personally like them and alot of other people I know don't most people who have bought them have regretted by them they feel like a mattress with broken springs soggy it's probably for people who just sleep in 1 place not for people who keep moving about like me as I can't go to sleep in 1 hour as some people seem to just go sleep very quickly after lying down.

We were looking at getting a new mattress and I was intrigued by all the hype over the new online mattresses. There's Eve, Casper, Simba, Emma, Leesa to name a few, all of which seemed similar with slight differences. They all seem to get decent reviews and you get the 100 night trial with them. There's even some YouTube videos of people comparing and contrasting them which might be worth a watch.

Anyway I decided to go into my local John Lewis as they are now stocking the Simba mattress, as I still was undecided. The Simba mattress was ok but not amazing, but whilst there we tried a Tempur Cloud Deluxe 22 and I fell in love with it! It was so comfy and I couldn't tell when my hubby got up off the bed or was moving on it. But omg the price!

Anyway we decided to go to some other shops including Dreams, Bensons for Beds and a local shop hoping to find something less expensive we liked. Tried lots of mattresses including ones which got Which? Best Buy and some others that were in an article in the Independent:

http://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/house-garden/best-mattress-side-sleeper-kids-review-tempur-a6950396.html

But nothing came close to the Tempur Cloud mattress but it was so expensive! We were looking at a super king which was around £1800 ouch! But then I had a look online and it turns out Tempur actually have outlets at the designer shopping villages. So I rang one of them to find out a bit more, the mattresses are all new but may be ex demo or customer returns due to dust marks etc. They still come with a 10 year warranty and they have all the same models as in the normal shops. Usually they are around £400-£500 cheaper but occasionally and on the weekend I rang they have a deal where any mattress any size is £999. So we ordered a super king for £999.

True memory foam has no springs in it, those that do and cheap copies and dont last long, its looking inside the outer cover that will tell you what is really in the contents.

Which have one of the tempur mattresses as Do not buy !!!!

don't buy from dreams or bensons. they get appalling reviews and customer satisfaction levels.

it's personal choice so recommendations from others really don't work. I have a Bruno and I'm very happy. it's firmer than the others.

We have a Sealy memory foam mattress. King size. £500 but got it for £150 on ebay. Slight damage although it was nothing really. Could not live without it. Best thing ever for my back and so comfortable. Completely different to a normal mattress, I don't sweat but you are hotter than normal on the body side that is in contact with the mattress. Takes a while to adjust to how they feels but you need to give yourself chance. I think pocket sprung is the most popular. That's not for me.
#15
Yes I know that's why I said that's how they feel like they get indentations of ur body that's what irittates me as it feels weird when trying sleep in different positions.

Thanks for all the imput. I will sleep on what has been said :-) and have a look at a few on line reviews before deciding.

anyway op. get an ergoflex, you wont regret it. I have had one for about 8yrs, and its one of the best things I have bought. I have recommended them to loads of people, and never had any complaints from anybody.

Try latex topped mattresses, I much prefer them to memory foam.
