Opinions needed on which cake is better for a village bake sale fundraiser.

A) silhouette cake

B) pond cake

Silhouette cake is easier as I've got the lace decorations already made, but is it too boring? I haven't done a silhouette cake before, so nabbed a photo from online but it would be the same decoration

Pond cake is one I did a few years ago as a birthday cake.

Thanks for your comments, I've gone for the general consensus and started the pond cake.

I'm over half way there :)

My biscuits need finishing off but they're looking ok bearing in mind I had a kitchen crisis with the sink leaking water into the cupboard below. I'll give them eyes tomorrow oO

Both look delicious, I would personally prefer the Silhouette cake but would say, go with the pond cake as thats more likely to raise more money for the village/good cause.
#3
Love the pond one

Both look lovely, personally I prefer the pond cake for a bake sale.

Thanks.

I just can't decide!

Pond looks great. For eating purposes I don't like icing though :(

Pond looks great. For eating purposes I don't like icing though :(

I usually leave the fondant on my plate & just eat the cake, jam and buttercream. The fondant I use is tasty, it's really good stuff, but it's too sugary for me to enjoy.

It's a tragedy if you don't enjoy buttercream though as my homemade vanilla buttercream is so delicious.

I would say Pond Cake. It will appeal to adults and children. Looks too good to eat:)

Well done some fantastic looking cakes you have made there. Mine usually look very erm rustic. Usually taste good but don't have 1% of the visual appeal of yours.

Pond cake two votes here (daughter and myself).
You should be so proud of yourself, they're all fantastic! :)

The pond cake unless the silhouette is all the way through. :p

So much better than my attempts anyway.
This was my daughter's birthday cake last year. (She loves Pusheen!) ;)

That's a nice cake. There's just a bit in the middle that's making me feel just a tad uneasy :D

still waiting for my slice of cake to arrive from last time...

pond cake could do with the reeds/rushes as icing rather than paint i think
(maybe this is why i am still waiting :p)

Aah, I see, that's fine then X)

I think the second because I don't like black icing I swear that food colouring flavors it slightly of liquorice.
#28
Do a silhouette of a pond setting

Then you hit two birds with one stone
#29
Just send me the directions to your village ;)

I'll take either cake ;) they both look delicious

but I do prefer less decorations (icing and stuff) much prefer naked cakes like Coffee & Walnut or Carrot Cake or a real soft fluffy Cherry Madeira

If only I wasn't living alone I could bake my own and not always think about costs and waste :(

or is that waist ? ;)

Pond from me. Do you need my address to send it?
#38
wow your cakes are gorgeous well done you. I'm a keen home baker but in my family we totally don't like icing or buttercream so I can't really test out any designs or new kinds of cakes as we'll only eat the inside and the outside goes to waste.

I prefer the silhouette cake but I think for your cause pond cake is better.
#39
Pond cake! Though I'll have to try it to be sure
