Mobile phone with MP3 player £50 budget

My 16 year old son wants a new mobile phone for Christmas. His main criteria being that it can play MP3 files, so really it would need to have a memory card slot and ideally take normal headphones. Is there a particular barnd that is better than the others. Not too fussed about a fancy camera or anything, just the MP3 function. He has said that he'd also like to be able to get some of those little portable speakers to go with it. I have seen some phones that come with them, but they tend to be above the £50 budget.

Oh yes, T-mobile or unlocked for preference.

Thanks in advance, Mike73

The Phone Was On Vodaphone, But I Put In A Tesco Simm Card And It Worked. So May Be Unlocked.

Would I be correct in assuming that Sony Ericsson is the brand to go for? Are they much better than the Samsung mentioned, or than other brands.

Yeh Ill say the Sony Ericsson will be better for Mp3 and what your son needs than a Samsung. I bought the W710i from Play.com:

The headset is a bit on the down side, so I bought these headphones:

The phone is unlocked.

I agree, SE - probably the best in the market for having very good MP3 capabilities on their phone. A close second in Nokia. Samsung, too be honest are not that good.

Thanks for that BadBoyTC, looks like a really good buy, I've decided to go for this, with the headphones as suggested, the inline remote should be very handy, also the fact that it comes with a 512MB card should get him started.

On top of this, the £5 off voucher and 4% Quidco brings it all in at just under £55. Rep left, cheers.

Edit: Forgot to say thanks to Shug119 aswell, also got Rep.
