can somebody explain how i claim washing expenses for my work clothes.I tried awhile back by post but never got a penny,which must be wrong.I have spoken to other work friends,who have informed me that they have received £400 and these people started the same time as me,they got their union to do it for them,so i think Ive done it wrong by post

your work friends are probably pulling your leg about the £400

i work in an industry where i get the maximum allowance for wearing a uniform, which has a £140 impact on my tax code per year, which in turn means i get £50'ish per year and the max you can back claim is for 4 years, so approx £200

If you look on Martin Lewis website MSE I am sure there is a template letter to use.

thanks all for the advice and links,Ive filled the online forms out,hoping this will work as heard nothing the last time by post.It said max £80 a year.

call the tax office,ask to backdate claim....easier by phone.
