Motorola Moto G - Problems with the App SMS Back-Up + (By Jan Merkel)

Hi. Has anyone had problems with the App - SMS Back-Up+ (By Jan Merkel) on the MOTO G phone?

I've used it successfully in the past with other phones and when I've done a restore linked to my Gmail account all my text messages have come over with no problems at all.

I've tried 3 times now with the MOTO G and although it comes up with no error messages and says the process has completed, my text messages aren't coming across.

They are still all showing in my Googlemail account. I've switched on "Enable IMAP" in Gmail settings and checked that the App isn't installed on the SD card, which it isn't (both suggestions via the FAQ on the App website) and no joy.

I'm stumped! I've sent a support email to Jan Merkel but a week later no reply. Anyone care to offer a hand please? :|

Hiya. Yep, same issue. I've tried using a different SMS app as well (GO SMS Pro) and still no joy. No reply from the Developer either. :(

Hi,

I used this the other day and had the same problem too (but I've used it in the past without problems) so I ended up using Super Backup and it did the job.

Does Super Backup work in the same way as SMS Back-Up + then? Will it retrieve/restore the old messages sitting in googlemail even if I didn't use Super Backup in the first place to back them up? I don't mind that SMS Back up + keeps messing up the retrieve so much because I can still see those same messages sitting in my googlemail account when I log on. Don't want to lose them as well!

You are setting it as the default app in settings right?

You mean SMS Back-Up + as the default restore app? To be honest I'm not sure. What path would I follow to check? Please don't tell me to follow the yellow brick road!!! :p

I'm not sure if it will work the same way as you've said as it's no longer on the phone I used to transfer from and to so can't check. Sorry.

Follow the steps below on your Moto G:

1. Install the SMS Backup+ (if not already done so).
2. Login with your gmail account (again, if not already done so).
3. Go to "Settings"
4. Click on the first option "Privacy Guard"
5. Press the MENU button (or select the 3 square dots top right on the screen) and select "Advanced"
6. Scroll to the right twice so you get to the "MESSAGING" section
7. Scroll down until you find SMS Backup+ and then select it
8. Scroll down until you find the parameter or option "Write SMS DB" and you will see it's set to "DENIED"
by default
9. Change it to "ALLOWED"
10. Go to your SMS Backup+ app and run the restore
11. You will see all your messages and call logs will be restored
12. Change the "Write SMS DB" to "DENIED" again once you are done restoring. (you can leave it "ALLOWED" too if you like as there is no issue with that)

Enjoy! 8)

Have you tried the steps?
