hi all,

we have terminated our virgin contract and taken phone and bb from sky. We have a sky dish on the side of the house and a cable coming in. so we are thinking of getting this freesat box.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/HB-1000S-Freesat-Receiver-requires-Satellite/dp/B00EZ40A9I?th=1&psc=1

does anyone have this and would you recommend it? being able to record one channel is fine. so not bothered about having a extra tuner in.

cheers Talset

Humax offer refurbished boxes of that model for £50 plus delivery:
http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/refurbished/hb-1000s-94e552.html

Bear in mind that tuners are needed for both recording and watching, so you might want two if you're doing them together.

Why bother with freesat when you can stream more from the net?

Because it never gets interrupted by other people using the internet? Plus not all channels offer online catch up services.

Sorry if I have read some of your comments incorrectly but I always thought the Humax HB boxes were for viewing only and didn't have the ability to record, unless of course this is via usb stick. I know it has freetime but not all programmes or all channels have this facility.

Like ops have said you need a twin tuner if you require recording features I would suggest HDR-1010S 1TB this box enables catchup tv and has the Netflix option you can get this model on the humax website refurbished for £139 the one you are thinking about getting is single feed with no hard drive.

give http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/ a ring, I bought my single tuner freesat box from them and they're pretty helpful if you explain what you want from the box

Do you have 1 cable, or 2? For a dual tuner box, if it's only one cable, you'd need to upgrade the LNB to dual and run an extra cable - and it has to be a SKY dish compatible LNB to match the dish - Satcure has some good info on all things satellite, and a quad (dual not available) LNB for Sky disk MK4 (adapter kit for MK2/3) bodge fitting possible on MK1

i have one lone coming in from the dish. bit looking at the LNB looks like it might be a quad one. as there are four connections on the underside of it. the cable that is there is coming out of the second one in. comparing it to our neighbours dish they have one cable with one connection on it.
