So I purchased an expensive item directly from Amazon, however it turned out to be faulty so I used their prepaid collection service to return it to them (MyHermes.) However, the tracking number does not appear to be working, and Amazon have not received the item despite it being sent over 2 weeks ago. The courier did not give me any receipt or proof that he collected the item, and I suspect he did not even scan the item as the tracking number is not working. Since Amazon are looking for tracking proof that I sent it, does anybody have any idea how I can prove it was sent? I am thinking to ask the Hermes driver next time I see him if he remembers collecting a parcel from me (he regularly delivers parcel here) and recording it for proof. Does anybody know if MyHermes use GPS tracking on their drivers? As I am going to need proof that the driver actually collected the parcel (and possibly stole it) as he clearly did not scan the barcode I believe he was supposed to. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Was the collection pre-arranged for a set day (and time?), or casual?

The collection was arranged for the next working day after it was booked, it wasn't a set time.

This may imply that the courier was contracted to collect on the pre-arranged day and so may have pre-allocated a tracking number and / or is contracturally obliged to explain why they failed to collect, which itself implies that some record of attendance / non-attendance will exist. In this case I suspect the courier may not formally respond to your enquiries as you are not the customer; you may need to push Amazon to make such an enquiry.

Been in contact with the courier yet?

I've contacted Amazon twice, both times they say they'll get back to me in 48 hours and don't. You are right that Hermes do not respond to the recipient, only to the sender which is frustrating. They have allocated a tracking number, but when entering this on MyHermes it says it is not recognised, indicating that the courier did not scan the barcode. Good idea about the lack of collection, hopefully Hermes are logical in their approach, it's times like this that makes you wish you had CCTV at the door (actually looking into buying one now.)

Yep, MyHermes basically tell me to speak to Amazon, who then need to contact MyHermes as apparently they can't see anything unless Amazon call up.

What does the tracking state? if it's greyed out it means not in the system. Contact them on chat as sometimes the numbers don't work if they are a few weeks old. I had this with a parcel. I dropped it at a shop. It never arrived at its destination. my hermes tell me it never entered the system even though I dropped it at the shop. They never found it and I never got compensated despite having the card saying j dropped it off.

Why would you ever consider sending an expensive item via Hermes? It is your fault for using them, they have a reputation for mislaying parcels

It was a courier arranged by Amazon, it was either use their service or pay for it myself. Thanks for the helpful comment.

They offer a selection of couriers, they also offer postage reimbursement up to £4.50. You really should ask them next time when talking about your return, stay away from the Hermes type logistic firms.

i have used myhermes about ten times and although not the most professional couriers I have had no problem with their service.

To the OP, You usually have a driver for your local area, they should have a request sent to them to pick up your parcel in your area, that as far as I can see is the only proof you will have.

Like my local courier they don't bother scanning the items or leaving a slip (sometimes she just opens the door and takes it).

Yes Hermes are terrible but did u read the question? As stated it was an amazon return, which means you have to use their service. Amazon pick who they use which is Hermes. The customer has no choice oO

When this happened to me I went to the online chat. Leave the parcel tracking blank when trying to get through to them. it will let you chat to them still.

Perfect, that actually worked. Looks like it was scanned, there is hope yet!

Isn't it nice to see some people can be so helpful on here and others so negative - negativity does not help, the OP was already feeling bad and didn't need anybody making him feel worse! Well done joecope and pandalily, you came up with what the OP needed, help and good, helpful advice :)

That should be all you need to show to Amazon. The customer's responsibility ceases at the collection scan and should trigger the refund procedure. If the Amazon-contracted courier fails to deliver an item, it is up to Amazon to resolve - this should not impede the timely refund to customer.

Just to say Hermes collected my Amazon return almost 3 weeks ago without a receipt and I contacted Amazon yesterday who said Hermes returns usually take between 2 and 3 weeks ,then my refund appeared today. So I think they are just slow.

Best way to send something back to Amazon is collect+. Last month I sent back a £170 phone via collect+, Amazon refunded me 2 hours later. Yesterday I returned 2 air mouses £15.98 and they refunded me 4 hours later.

Always, ALWAYS get a receipt.

We send stuff via Hermes all the time, the ONLY parcel that went "missing" was the one time I forgot to ask for the receipt.
Ditto Parcel Force.

Driver theft is a big issue with all courier/parcel companies; I know, I used to investigate some of it for a recovery firm and I used to work for GUS (at the same time!!), so I know how much used to get stolen, then covered up by the management. (hell, the management were the biggest thieves!!)

Have you received your refund yet? My item was collected over six weeks ago and I still haven't received anything.
