Is it true if your energy supplier do not send a bill based on accurate meter readings in 1 year then you are not obliged to pay the estimated bill they keep sending, this is the big problem I have been experiencing with N Power sending huge bills when very little gas and elec is actually being used so I heard about the above and just checking if it is true, any advice/help appreciated thanks

Yeah, they also send you a free laptop

Have you given them your meter readings?

Yes they do send estimated bills. you could send them meter readings either over the phone or online. they will then send you an amended bill.

Npower the worst customer service ever . I got no bills , then wrong bills , then more wrong bills , then lied to by customer service . Then threatening letters , then threats of court action and debt collectors . Despite emails and guarantees of no more letters .. Still they came as I owed them £300 . I ended up contacting ombudsman and it turned out Npower owed me £82 .. Plus the £200 I got awarded for the hassle . Avoid Avoid Avoid.

Before I moved, I was with NPower for gas and electric on prepayment meters.

After moving, I'm not with them anymore but I received a bill for £140 despite using a meter.

Phoned them up to ask about it and they said it was wrong and I was to ignore it. Sorted within five minutes.

Never had a problem with customer service.

SSE on the other hand...

Npower have some how managed to take over my electricity account without any contact with me whatsoever and put it in someone else's name, are sending bills to a different address to mine and refuse to speak to me because I don't have an account with them. I can see that it's going to be fun sorting this one out!

You are not obliged to pay only if they don't send you ANY bills, estimated ones don't count. Just give them up to date readings and it should be accurate provided you read it correctly. MSE site will have more info.

Hi I work for Npower customer service
The information you've heard is incorrect we need accurate meter readings to bill your account upto date and would have to bill you based on consumption used

You need to be careful, after nearly two years of them failing to take a meter reading, and their system crashing whenever I tried to enter one; a meter reader finally read mine. The reading showed I had used about £600 LESS than the estimates, but NP - in their infinite wisdom - decided I had actually "gone around the clock", and tried to up my DD to £3600 per month to cover the alleged usage.

When I tried to leave them they also hit me with a spurious bill for hundreds of pounds - only a week after my meter reading said I was in CREDIT by £60. It took a year of escalating complaints, and several disconnection notices before they backed down.

They are right next to British Gas on my lifetime ****. (BG blocked me moving my gas, because they said I owed them 4p).

N power sent us a letter saying they owe us £70 but many months later they still haven't paid it.
True story my missus was talking to npower on online chat. The blokes name was ashit. It's like they are laughing in our face.

I've been with them for years, never had any problems. I receive emails to send in meter readings(received one yesterday funnily enough) and the bills are adjusted accordingly.

I get estimated bills all the time with various energy providers. Never been a problem as they adjust the next bill with the submitted reading or when they come round to read the meter, which is only one every 6 months. British gas electric was the night mare, who ignored submitted electric meter readings and wouldn't come round to read the meter.
