My mate has asked me to look for a laptop for him ( he thinks i know what i'm talking about but i havent got a clue!!)

Anyway he wants to spend around £400, wants it to have a fire wire port so he can transfer movies etc from camcorder. He wont be using it for gaming but will be using the internet. Any good ones available out there?

Dont think he is too fussed about a bluray drive either - aslong as it has a normal dvd drive he wil be happy.

Think that is.

Thanks

A geek I know (works in IT as a developer) recommended this to me:

Asus X5DIJ Laptop,Intel Core 2 Duo T5870

Also, this aint bad cos of the warranty & stuff

Providing he's not looking to do any processor intensive tasks!

Again - doesnt say anything about FireWire port?

Are laptops available with FireWire ports?

FireWire is losing ground to USB...esp. as USB 3 is around the corner. Probably better to find the right notebook (budget/spec./weight/etc.) and then buy a Firewire/USB adapter. If he is transferring video from his camcorder, he may need a little more performance - have a look at the new Intel i3 and i5 processors.
