you do realise that buying him a gaming laptop means that no homework will actually be done?

£1400??? he must be serious into his gaming.

My son is always on his gaming, and all he has is a HP G350 with an i5 core-works well. And was only £280.

Does he play modern games or older? Does it run smoothly?
I'm looking to get myself a laptop for gaming soon.

Have you considered desktop pc, gaming laptops are often overpriced and they don't last long, get extended warranty

With the added benefit of being able to see what they are up to. It's difficult to hide a desktop away.

MSI come with a 2 year guarantee. Also Costco and John Lewis extend warranty to two years. Which games does he play?

£1400 is way more than you need to spend for something to play those two. If he really wants an alienware then get the cheapest you can, and try the delloutlet. http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/SecondaryInventorySearch.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dfh&cs=ukdfh1&key=fezYuJVTF1bqL6raVE%2bNpEiaHFrvF9q9&puid=2c151a20 is overkill (but all they have in 17" at the moment) and that one is £1,100 and theres a 10% discount code bringing it to 1k.

A £600-£700 laptop would be more than sufficient for those tasks.

would recommend a PC specialist laptop. they use clevo and can offer better value. only reason you should go for alienware is for the graphics amplifier

I wouldn't say using Clevo chassis is a positive.....

Personally I'd say get a Gaming desktop and a normal laptop...at least you can keep upgrading a gaming desktop and If/when he wants to take the laptop out of the house they tend to be far heavier than a normal day to day laptop

Desktop AND laptop?

The OP asked for a laptop.

If someone asked for a motorbike recommendation would you suggest they get a car and a motorbike..?

no I'd say buy two motorbikes....one for commuting and one for the trackdays and weekends :)

For the price of a useful gaming laptop that will play the latest games at a decent resolution you can buy a gaming desktop and an everyday laptop.
