Hi All,

Good day. I bought DELL Inspiron 15 - 7000 Series - 7537 Laptop in Jan 2014 for my daughter. The laptop Motherboard has been changed by DELL last year due to OS (Win 10) and hardware issues. Now, my daughter is having the problem with the laptop as follows:

01. The Touchpad is not working
02. At times, the keyboard keys do not work and she has to reboot the laptop.
03. The laptop is now running on Win 8.

The laptop is out of warranty now. We tried by installing the old drivers (I have the recovery USB, created at the time on installing and prepared the system ready in Jan 2014) but no luck. We reloaded the OS, installed latest drivers plenty of times during the past 10 months and finally contacted DELL and they say that mother board need to be changed (Dell team suggested over telephone/remote diagnosis) and I am not sure whether it is the right solution.

Can any of you be able to let me know what could be a better solution in this case and also any hardware specialist to resolve this in London.

Thanks in advance and your right advice/help is much appreciated.

iv had similar issues from dell with my 3000 series, bought it 3 years ago and I also bought 3 years warranty. they repaired it 5 times in total, 2x motorboard, keyboard, touchpad, and another issue.
do you have any warranty?? can you buy extended ? at end I argued for a replacement, after pushing them they gave me a free 5000 series :)

Is Dell offering to replace your mobo for free or at cost? If free I would snap their hands off - if at cost - then I would haggle them down to as low as you are prepared to pay.

There may be some consumer rights issues here rather than pure technical solutions to the problem.

This page might help you.

if it's still under warranty, replace it, if not reinstall os. try old drivers for touchpad and keyboard as the new ones might be the fault. Google is your friend, there will be a solution out there. it's usually the drivers, they update constantly. try a rollback to previous touchpad and keyboard drivers. find the original ones it came with back in 2014. if all that fails it could be a hardware issue. have you split anything on it? that may need a clean which is a real faff...good luck, my money is on new drivers that have updated, so a rollback or installing the 2014 drivers should fix the problem then try and stop them updating again (look in updates and block them)

Hi eskimosound,
Thanks for your reply. The laptop is out of warranty now. There is no spillage on the laptop in any manner and used very carefully. We tried by installing the old drivers (I have the recovery USB, created at the time on installing and prepared the system ready in Jan 2014) but no luck. However, will try again.

I take it you did not go to the link in #2? Just a couple of simple questions to answer. Don't be conned by worthless warranties - in my view a laptop should last between 3 and 5 years without issues. You had a mobo replacement approx 12 months ago. The issues you are now having may or may not have something to do with the mobo, but your laptop is not working as any reasonable person would expect it to be. Fight your corner, but do expect to be challenged regarding mis-use and dropping etc.

Dont bother with the reinstallation CD, find the actual drivers from the support site. You will be able to download two of them one for the touchpad and one for the keyboard. Asus offer that support I don't know if Dell do I will have a mooch....You could also try hoovering the keyboard, and giving it a good blow and dustdown with a new paintbrush! turn it upside down give it a shake and a tap on the back, you never know it could be something as simple as that. try and do it on a table a see what comes out....I'm sure you will be amazed.

Right found it for you it's one file, choose OS you said window 8 make sure its 8 and not 8.1 or just make sure you know which one it is, so select the OS and download the driver package and install, that should sort it, fingers crossed.

Hi Thanks to all for giving ways to resolve. The Dell has changed the mother board last year and say it has got 3 months warranty. As 3 months lapsed, they would like to charge money now. But, I felt the money, they are asking, I could get a new laptop in the market and the latest one rather than spending on this. Anyhow, as suggested, I will try to download the drivers once again and also will speak to DELL to again. Thx
