My daughter is struggling to understand the context behind her debate topic.

Debate Topic Entrepreneurial behaviours are a result of society and education not personality and innate talent.
She has been chosen to debate for the against argument. (personality and innate talent and internal forces), under the category social vision.

I have no idea what social vision is and I'm finding nothing entirely relevant.

Does anyone have an inkling of what I should be researching?

Thanks.

It sounds as if the proposal is as follows - People go into business either because their education and social experience push them towards this practice, against the idea that it is inborn in some (talented? driven?) people to make profits and develop a competitive business model which will benefit them personally. The notion of business is either as a social construct, in that it is what is expected, necessary and encouraged in society, or as an inbuilt human characteristic to pursue profit through deveoping a business. It's more a view of society and how it may (or may not) guide and influence potential entrepreneurs in this. I think. Hope this helps rather than confuses.

Can't she ask a lecturer or debate leader?

Also, this might help (emphasis on the might):

It sounds like you're interpreting it as having to work on the 'social vision' of that proposition with other people handling other aspects.

I suspect that if there's no description at all about what social vision refers to then it's just the category of that debate topic and not relevant to what she has to do. It's worth asking for clarification just in case but I'd focus on the proposition being debated.

As to what to research, I'd say your daughter definitely had the short end of the stick. Maybe you could take a historical approach and draw parallels between entrepreneurship and roles like privateers and missionaries that might demand similar personality traits in an effort to argue that the personalities are always there and society only shapes what they apply themselves to. Plus it lets you compare business leaders to pirates, which should go down well with a student audience.
