New Build PC is it worth waiting for Kaby Lake or just go with current i7 6700k?

£0.00 @
Will there be a drop on the current skylake 6th gen i7 6700k? Will the new Kaby Lake i7 7700k be a big price increase on the skylake 6th gen i7 6700k? Will there be a big performance difference?…

there is always a new one round the corner. the price never drop they increase. 2 years ago the i5 4690k would sell for £155-165 average price now they sell for £250 average price. it's probably down to 1150 motherboards selling cheap with production of the i5 4690k stopped or slowed down.

So the skylake will be cheaper compared to when the kaby lake one comes out?

Get skylake I waited out for skylake and hesitated from buying the 5820k and instead of a price drop I paid an extra £50 for the 5820k. The increase cost of the 6800k and negligible performance improvement meant it wasn't worth it. I would only wait for zen as that could potentially disrupt the market however we've seen AMD disappoint before

It depends on what you're doing with it. Kaby Lake brings 10-bit HEVC decoding so it uses much less power doing that as well as improved encoding abilities supporting HEVC Main10 and VP9 and bring the fixed function mode to HEVC. If you're a game streamer or similar you may find that attractive.

GPU power is quite substantially better judging by the mobile chips, the HD 620 was around 30% faster than the HD 520 according to notebookcheck's review.

Kaby Lake certainly has features that are well waiting worth a couple of months for some uses but you haven't said which bits of the chip you're using most heavily so it's hard to say for you.

The old chipset will actually increase in price as the new chipset only will be supported running windows 10. My company have just ordered 350 laptops to stockpile to run windows 7. Many companies are doing the same.

they never get cheaper, infact because a new ones coming out the old one either has some sort of production drop and it causes the prices to increase by minimum £50
