Hi guys,

I am looking for a new computer for Photoshop.
Unfortunately I cannot spend more than £400.
Prefered Intel i3/i5 system,Samsung SSD EVO250GB, no monitor.

Any suggestions?

Is there anything we could use from an old computer for example old hard drive old version of Windows case etc as this build won't be easy at £400 otherwise.

Thank you for all replies.
I need to start from a scratch and I would like to build it myself.
What do you think about:

Intel D54250WYKH NUC Ultra Compact Barebone PC (Intel Core i5 4250U, 1 x S-ATA, 2 x SO-DIMM DDR3L, USB 3.0, Mini HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, Intel HD Graphics 5000) for £280

Is the performance of the mobile i5 4250U good enough for Photoshop?

No, that processor is not very good. I believe it is designed for notebooks. Its like having a computer with the power of a laptop.

It would be rubbish for Photoshop. It's because your looking at "ultra compact" machines!

Photoshop loves more cores, AMD graphics card and lots of RAM.

I5 4670k About £170
Board say £60-70
RAM 8GB = £60
GFX R7 265 = £90-£100
PSU + Case = £50
SSD maybe look at the Crucial MX100 256gb for under £90
However this comes way over budget at above £500

Because of your budget I would personally go down the AMD route, not sure of their roadmap though and which sockets they are phasing out as I have not looked into it.

But a good system for Photoshop would be:
AMD FX 6300 £70
Board £50
RAM 8GB = £60
GFX R7 265 = £90-£100
PSU + Case = £50
SSD maybe look at the Crucial MX100 256gb for under £90

Looking at a couple of quid over £400, could maybe get it cheaper if you used Ebay.

Photoshop CS6 is tailor made for AMD cards using OpenCL so that is why I have gone for the AMD card, it is a nice cheap mid range one that is perfect for your needs. However Nividia are now supporting OpenCL and also have CUDA, you will have to look at what you are wanting to do in Photoshop do decide which GFX card is best for you, but never spend over £100 as anything above will be wasted. Maybe even drop down a level to a £60 card if it supports what you need.
