new laptop releases - latest intel processors (santa rosa etc)

hi,

I was wondering what everyone's opinions are as to whether now is a good time to buy a laptop or not. i look to buy one about every 2 years, focusing on gaming/desktop replacement ability rather than portability. right now id probably go for a high-ish end acer, probably 2.0ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram, vista, 256 graphics, 15.4" widescreen.

However, ive seen that a number of new processors have just or are about to be released (im thinking specifically of the Santa Rosa/Centrino Pro line). What are your thoughts as to whether i should buy now or hold off a little?

There's always something new round the corner in the land of computers, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go for it. One advantage of the new stuff is that the older stuff will drop in price, it's really just a case of if it does what you need it doesn't matter how new it is, unless you have money to burn in which case quad core is due on Lappy's early 2008 :)...

i fully understand, you can always keep waiting for the latest thing. what i meant was, does anyone know of any big upcoming processor releases/upgrades that will lead to new products/price drops in old ones?

I just want to make an informed choice - im in no particular rush - and i dont want to splash out only for prices to fall not long after.
