Hi,

Im going in Dec and went last year. Last year I had money to burnso didnt car what it cost, but this year is diffrent and its amazing what you can get for little money!

I took ages going over the flights hotels etc this year! Flights- I found using the 20% off voucher (MM2007ZA) for zoom that they were the cheapest, even when I upgraded to Premium eccon, £256 each. I recomend going with a carrier that has a large baggage alowence, cos things are sooooo cheap! Travel supermarket/ Expedia are great for atlantic flights as they include most of the airlines tat do these routes and its easy!

Hotelwise-I used Booking.com, they seemed just as cheap as everyone, but they book direct with the Hotel meaning that I dont pay until I check out!! I phoned the hotel direct to see if I could get any cheaper and couldnt. It also means I can keep my eye out for some cracking deals if they come up, as I can cancel for a FULL refund all the way up to the day before I arrive!! There is a 10% code on the site for hotels.com I think but they ended up still more expencive than many others even using this code. Other hotels that are good but cheap are the New Yorker, Time, in fact as long as you go 3 star min all are OK, think about location as you are rarely in your room!!

Location-wise, im staying in the Wellington this time and its perfect for what I want. Easy walking distance from time square, Broard way, Empire and views of central park. Theres aslo a subway station half a block away to get to the other parts quickly. You will quickly work out that walking and subway are best ways to travel as a Taxi is in traffic for ages!!!

Its an amazing city and with the £ so strong you can live like a millionair. Finest restraunts, shopping etc.

You must take your wife/GF to Tavern on the Green, its awsome!

Sorry its long!

NY is a fab city been twice, and looking at going again if i can get a bargain flight just to take advantage of the exchange rate

Flying Zoom requires you to go london first.

Believe it of not rather than flying direct like my original plan i got my flights with ASDA-travel. flying from manchester to philadelphia with a 1 and half hour layover then from there to la guardia, which actually works out quicker to getting to Manhattan than flying direct to JFK or Newark, becuase of the time it takes travelling from the airport.

Direct flights were gonna cost me from £510 round trip for 2 of us, but go via asda and choose USairways you will get it cheaper than the USairways site and get 10% discount if you pay via mastercard all in all the flights came to £480.

I'm staying here: http://www.hotels.co.uk/pageDetails.do?childrenPerRoom=0&departureDate=28%2F01%2F2008&arrivalDate=25%2F01%2F2008&destinationId=572B0850-4E3F-469B-87B2-C17ED3EA049B&hotelId=134388&numberOfRooms=1&adultsPerRoom=2&childAgesPerRoom=

got a club room - just for the free internet  dont forget quidco for another 6.5% back :)

Don't worry about the luggage allowance too much as any flights to and from the states have to let you take at least 2 bags with 23kg each, thus making 100kg total for 2 people that is a lot.

Try asking on trip advisor and looking at the reviews there lots of very good information.

The podhotel is supposed to be kinda cool and cheapish.

I got an apt when I went there so you can try looking for one of those.

hotdealing, is that defo right about the baggage??????

I went last year and got stung for £120 charge for being over the combined total of 30KG per person!!

I want my money back if it is!!!!!! Anybody?

to find flights i recommend kayak www.kayak.co.uk excellent flight finding site that compares pretty much every scheduled airline there is!

im checking all links now!! thanks guys!!

its just really annoying that there r no flights at £150 cause that saving x2 adds up!!!!

Have a look at www.priceline.com (don't use .co.uk to get the savings on the dollar) and replicate on any travel website. I saved £70 buying from octopus.com instead of octopus.co.uk last year.

Fire up www.biddingfortravel.com in conjunction with priceline and you should be able to grab yourself a cracking deal. We're off to NYC in July so I'm envious at flights anything under £300pp.

Cheers,

Billy

Oh man this reminds me of old times. Empire state building was awesome. Watching the Knicks get whooped in basketball was awesome and ice skating in Central park was awesome!!!

I missed out on the Zoom flights thingy. Will have to go again soon.
