You're paying for direct server access basically to just about anything you can think of

You can download at the max speed of your line too (1.5mb/s for me)

Some good cheap deals here http://www.newsgroupreviews.com/

ok thanks, do you use any?

http://www.hitnews.eu/english/ is OK, and has a 48 hour trial for 1.5 euro.
Youll need a program such as alt.binz to manage your downloads.

Yeah i use http://www.newsgroupdirect.com, they work out at about £8 a month with the discount code.

Theres various guides around to get you started.

You need a program to handle the files too, i use Newsleecher, its tops :)

Not sure what you're meaning ??

Too big for what?

there are three stages for newsgroups (my choice in brackets) stage 2 is optional but makes it much easier

1. the program you use. (newsleecher)
2. the site you get the nzb from (newzbin.com)
3. your server access (usenetserver.com)

giga are brilliant
as are newsgroups
however they are TOTALLY different to anyting you will have used or tired before
as stated can get anything you can imagine downloading on newsgroups and no you cant get done for sharing as you dont share.

To start you off I suggest you have a read here

http://www.slyck.com/ng.php

its very good for anyone thinking about newsgroups.

you'll need a newsreader, there are many around, but personally I reckon you cant beat newsleecher, which you can get a free subscrition for IF you use giganews servers

One last thing, dont make hgasty choices, read first then study harder and finally study and compare again before you decide on a newsreader, and also a newserver.

One thing to look out for is completeness of articles(articles/programs cd's etc are split into many parts, GOOD newsgroups will have a completion rate of almost 100% but some rubbish ones will have way less than this, meaning that he program/file you want may just not work because a part is missing), days retention (number of days info stays on the servers to download.. after the max number of days it's gone and you cant get back )and finally the number of newsgroups your server gives you access to
this last one is important as most of the free ones supplied by UK isp's have Thousands missing, there are around 150,000 newsgroups but you'll only ever have access to around 120000 maximum as scotland yard and interpol will have told the isp's/servers to have the missing ones blocked the others for obvious reasons

Depends what you're planning on downloading really

360 games are like 7gb, DVDs can be 5gb-7gb

You can adjust your plan at any time generally too so i wouldn't worry too much about it
