If you want new, for that price I'd probably go for a Nikon D40. Best price for a D40 with the 18-55mm lens is probably ebuyer. If you go via google checkout you can get one for £318.99 delivered...

But they seem to be out of stock at the moment, so probably go to jessops for £329.99 if you want to buy from a decent retailer...

Have to agree with that. It's very unlikely you will get a canon for that money. Would be looking nearer to £370.

www.digistor.co.uk have the Pentax K110D + 18-55mm Lens for £239 if you are flexible on brands. Not sure if they are a reputable trader though.

i was looking at the d40 before and that'd be good but no hope of getting anything like the tesco 400d deal then? :p

look at the cameraworld.com website for some refurbished dSLR - Pentax K100D for £249 is an amazing deal.

Also, if you go for the D40 and buy it from Jessops, use the code JDSLRJ015 to get £10 off to make it £319 delivered. Personally, I'd got for this deal.

Hi HenvY, I have just upgraded to the Nikon D80 from the D50. Nikon for me produces so much more vibrant results. Canon just doesn't do it for me and after my numerous comparisons I found the Canon to produce duller results. I am now selling my D50 which is virtually like new (in fact it even has a months warranty left on it) and it was bought for £500 just last year (have the receipt to show this). I am looking to sell it at £265 + postage. If you are interested let me know. Cheers. (p.s. D50 is superior to D40 due to greater lens compatibility + body has motor for lens control)

Save another £100 and get the Nikon D40X.
I've been reading alot of reviews and the Nikon is equal or better than the Canon 400D for about £50 less at this time.

Ive had one now for few months and cannot fault it..

Another alternative is the Pentax K100d.
You can pick these up for under £300.00 and it has the bonus of having anti shake built into the camera, my old man bought one and he can't fault it.
