Hey Guys!

Pretty new to this but I wanted to ask people on their opinion on the Wii U and whether they're still worth purchasing at this point in time? I'm looking for something with a fairly decent library and a casual approach to gaming.

Additionally if you have any tips on what to look for when purchasing one then that'd be greatly appreciated.

If there are ten games I want on a system, I pick it up. This always works for me. I found ten games I want on the WII U, so I bought it and I'm still having fun with it. I'd say go for it.

Why not? I see switch is going to support only carriages and Wii u has a ton of game so even if switch is gone no to support Wii u games that's likely to be through digital purchase or re-releases. So I think Wii u is independent from switch and worth purchasing.

Bought mine in December and loving it. I was always hesitant on buying it due to waiting for switch news, but now I'm happy I did.

Pretty much this. If there's games you want to play, then yes, buy it. The first party games are fab, Mario, Splatoon etc, and Zelda is coming too. Wii compatible too, so plenty of fun older titles.
Don't buy it if you want anything other than Nintendo games though. Pretty terrible third party support, and no more coming. No decent media like Netflix or anything either.

If you want fun, Nintendo's consoles are always a yes from me.

I recently got rid of mine cus I'm a sucker for new things and wanted the money towards a switch.

The Wii u is criminally underrated and has a nice back catalogue now. It is not huge though. If you bash out the good first party games and play fairly regularly you could have them all done in a year. Especially if your not into collecting all the stuff nintendo places in their games to add some length.

Theres some pretty good 3rd party titles to be played too. But still, i think buying it now is a short term buy.

Depending on how much you can pick one up for, why not?

Definitely will have more good games than the switch for now.. And a lot of great games can be picked up for £15 or less, and can also play Wii games if you choose to.

I've got little kids (7 and 3 years old) and playing console games isn't a big thing in our house but for the sake of tennis and mario kart it's great! The wii is definitely dated as but the wii u has HD and is just that bit more slick. We got a wii u second hand a few months back and I think it's great value. The handheld console bit alone is just fantastic and totally underrated, shame it all got slagged off so much as it's actually a very good offering.

Do you think it's worth waiting for the Switch to drop first to grab a bargain?

Yes. Still play my Wii u. You want it for these games:

Captain Toad
Bayonetta
Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
Mario Kart 8
Splatoon
Super Mario 3D World
Xenoblade Chronicles X
New Super Mario and Luigi
Paper Mario Colour Splash
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Starfox Zero
Wind Waker
Twilight Princess

For me, that list is the reason why to own it.

Nintendo hold their value like crazy.. I was in vex the other day and they had N64 games for £30-40! :0 I could buy 2-3-4 PS4 or Xbox one games for that :)

I'd say yes by the way.. :)

I got a Wii U brand new last month and very happy with it so far. I was hemming and hawing so much about getting one reason I was late to the Nintendo party! The big seller for me was the fact it is backward compatible with the original Wii meaning it makes the game library so much bigger and you get to play classics like the Mario Galaxy games and Metroid Prime Trilogy. There is no guarantee Nintendo will make it possible to play these games on the Switch so I say go for it!

They don't hold their value, you're just seeing the price of a console when it's back in fashion. This happens with most systems, the amiga 1200 is another that has sky rocketed. With N64 titles it's the cardboard sleeves that give the top price as they rip and crease so easy.

Lots of cheap consoles and games out there but you have to do the leg work :)
