Hello!

I've just bought a Nokia 5800, with 500MB data/mnth, but am finding the browser very slow - whilst I'm at home, can anyone tell me how I can connect to my home broadband network trough my wireless router?

I read a post on this site that "you just need to set the databearer to WLAN and enter the ssid{network name} & they key" see http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/467537/nokia-5800-25-month-for-12-months-1?page=2 (see post 24)

What is the ssid/network name? and the key?

I'd really appreciate any pointers on this subject - I am a complete novice when it comes to this sort of thing.

Also, can anyone advise on which is best - Opera Mini 5 or Opera Mobile 10?? I've read that Opera Mini reduces the amt of data downloaded.

Many many thanks!

I don't have an internet bolt-on from my mobile provider. Instead, I access the internet via my BT Home Hub, which costs me nothing - no download limits, either.

Under the Menu icons, tap "Internet", then "Web". A screen saying "select connection" comes up. the choices on mine are:
Search for WLAN
Internet "BT HomeHub2"
WAP services "Contract WAP"

When I tap "BT HomeHub", I connect straight to my home page, as if I were on my PC.

Hope this helps.

Hi - thanks to both!

I've just quickly tried maxmummy's suggestion, but when I tap "web" I just get a list of bookmarks...no option to search for WLAN or specify how the phone connects to the web. Presumably this must be hidden away in a settings menu??

have you tried menu>settings>connectivity>wireless WLAN

it should then list available networks, select yours and stick in your password if your connection is protected.

OK, I'm going to do it on mine now, just to make sure I gave you the correct instructions.

1) With phone switched on, press the white button in the middle at the bottom of the screen, which takes you into the Menu screen.
2) Tap the Internet icon (map of the world), which takes you into the Internet screen
3) Tap the Web icon (map of th world again)
4) A grey/blue band appears briefly and the phone says "connecting"
5) A grey screen appears, which says "Select connection". On my phone, I have:
Search for WLAN (picture of a blue antenna in a white circle)
Internet "BTHomeHUB2" (picture of the Earth)
WAP services "Contract WAP" ( white circle with a blue circle in the middle)
Uncategorised 1 access point (blue circle with a white question mark)
6)Tap Internet "BTHomeHUB2". Immediate connection to the internet via BT Home Hub.

I know this only means anything if you're with BT, but maybe your wireless router for you PC/laptop will show up on the screen in point 5) and you could try to gain access using that.

Fingers crossed.

Hi to All - just cracked it a few mins before termite's post!

A quick phone call to my partner to remember the password and it now seems to remember the network and doesn't ask for my password again.

Any info on OPERA browsers would be appreciated - I've heard they work much faster than the inbuilt one with the phone:

I'm planning on browsing this site whilst out and about - hopefully won't keep missing out on deals ;-)

glad you sorted it x

I found the opera browser to be a bit rubbish, the touch screen links refused to work most of the time. Pages seem to fit the screen better using the phones browser.
Have you downloaded the free Nokia sat. nav?

Skyfire is another browser that may be worth a look

Hi
No I haven't tried the sat nav - to be honest I thought it came with that already installed - I have just registered with the nokia store through my mob - now discovering the delights of the free applications (didn't even know what one was til now!) I will have a look for the satnav and skyfire - thank you for the tips!

I think the main sites I will be browsing on my mob are this one (though before I can do this apparently I need to change settings on the full site), yahoo, google, ebay, and bbc news site...
