hi guys my daughter has just had her birthday and has decided to get a laptop or notebook thing, I've seen these ones

Asus Eee PC Laptop 2GB Surf 512 MB (£70 used)
Acer Aspire ONE A110-AW - 512MB - 8GB (£120 graded)

both within range and wondered what you guys think of them, i know nothing of what ram and stuff mean so really struggle to know whats best, she wants it for bebo, listening to music and general surfing,
ALSO
could i just put her music onto a memory stick and she could listen to it through the machine instead of storing it on the memory?

or if you know of a better deal please let me know x thanks x

Firstly, for just general browsing and music these should be fine

Assuming these machines are running windows, then you can just play music from the stick. Windows media player should recognise it no problem.

Not sure which I would go for though. I might be tempted to get the Eee PC and just buy a big SD card to put in the side.

Also have a look at this one:

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/655/862/-/9292170/EPC-MiniBook-X-Burst-400MHz-128MB-2GB-7-Linux-Netbook/Product.html?searchtype=genre

I like linux on the Eee PC personally, I know others prefer windows. It should do the things you want

think both are on linux, don't know what linux is like though, is the play one a bigger and better memory or just better in general, thanks

This one should definitely be avoided unless you know exactly what you're getting into as it lacks things like flash support so no youtube or bbc iPlayer.

Either of the two you posted would do, they're small machines that are acceptible for web browsing for an hour or so with keyboards that are usable but not great and moderate battery life (2-3 hours). The eee has the better speakers while the aspire has the better keyboard.

Hi I have a eee 4gb version running Linux. Is fine to listen to music ,YouTube, watching divx. You can buy a sdhc and upgrade the gb. Is a great little machine. Fine for occasional use. I'd be a bit worried because of screen size if she intends spending long time on it though.

It is yes, in fact it looks too good to be true. If you're sure the site is legitimate then I'd buy one and submit it on here as a hot deal.

i just googled pink netbooks, so i know nothing about the site, just looked cute, i actually thought that something might be missing like software or hard ware from this cos i know nothing about what should be in a computer lol

The one that maplin has heavily advertised is the same as the Play one, and should definitely be avoided. I don't know if they stock others.
