I got one of those smart now tv boxes for the conservatory and the old box for my room.

I connected the old version of the box on Saturday and it was easily done and I'm watching stuff on it.

I've come round to connecting the smart box to the wifi and I'm having problems. Nothing that the router is downstairs and next to the conservatory.
It asked if I had typed password in correctly? (yes) is there internet connection? (Yes I'm connected to it now) or add the MAC Address to the router

So I went onto the virgin website as I'm using the Virgin super hub and added the now tv's MAC address to the router.

Still nothing?

It says on the now to website that I should change my wifi settings to 'auto' and it already is. I've reset the hub and turned the now tv box off and on again and still nothing

Any suggestions?

Take it to another room closer to router and see if it works. See if you can connected using ethernet,
to rule out something wrong with wifi on the box. Many things can affect the wifi including door bell etc..
so trial and error until you can get it working

Try this...I've seen the same issue on Roku boxes with Virgin Superhub (Roku makes the NowTv boxes for Sky)

also seen another issue when NowTV/roku boxes won't connect to your WiFi LAN if you have plugin extender's in use...If you have any of these unplug them until the NowTv box connects OK (even with a weak signal) then plug them back in again.

Tried anther room and still nothing, can't use Ethernet as the room that used to have the computer inside it doesn't have an Ethernet cable anymore, I can't find one anywhere :( trying to think other than a doorbell that could effect it, I mean it shouldn't have no problem connecting as the other (old) Now TV box had connected first time and this is an updated box

Strange...as disabling ping check usually does work....

wifi range extender...

Next thing I'd try then is turning of MAC address restriction on your router and see if it connects...
Are you connecting to 5ghz or 2.4Ghz....
Try 2.4Ghz if you haven't already

also try changing the channel on your router....

I have the old nowtv and it worked straight away. found the wifi. Input password and bingo. running.

Unlikely to be a fault with WiFi in the NowTv, that fact it's seeing networks means its working.
you need to strip back the layers of protection on your router to minimum and see if it connects with no security, no MAC address filtering. If it connects then turn security back on.
Personally I would never bother with MAC address filtering. If someone is that desperate to access your network then MAC addresses can be spoofed.
Also double check the ping disable hidden setting on the NowTV box as 9/10 times that does fix this issue..

also have you tried resetting the NowTv box...iirc they have a pin hole in the back you hold in for 30 seconds or so...

aah. my level of expertise is plugging it on and keeping a password. :) would be in a panic if things like this
happened to me. :(. hope you can help find the cause of this problem.

can I ask did you connect the old now tv box to the account for the first time the other day or has it previously been on the now tv account?

Didn't know there was a reset button, I reset it all in the settings but will try see if there's a pin hole at the back. Can't get any further until I put wifi in...

can I ask did you connect the old now tv box to the account for the first time the other day or has it previously been on the now tv account?


Yeah both boxes are brand new, new account

Just tried connecting it to my phone and works perfectly, I updates the box to see if it would fix the issue and connect it back to the router and no luck. A new router is coming tomorrow so will have to try with the new hub, apparently I've got the Superhub3 coming

my now tv account will not let me add more than one box per month but not sure if that makes a difference to connecting to WiFi

New Superhub 3 came an hour ago, set it all up and connected the Now TV without any issues. Definitely the SuperHub 2 from Virgin that is the issue
