Get mine from a guy on ebay, wickedplates..or similar user ID.;-)
#3
not cheap but these guys are very good: http://www.fancyplates.com/

have used them about 4 weeks ago

good thing about fancy plates is that, they don't print any rubbish on the bottom of the plate like many other vendors do to advertise, neither do they print the BSxxx in the bottom right hand corner

just nice clean plates!

Don't think you'll get them for £5-£10. Standard legal plates are £16.49 from No1 ShowPlates
#5
big up to bigup!!!!!! cheers m8
#6
Halfords do it while you wait from basic no frills plates, to fancy ones with extras.

http://www.coolplates.co.uk/ This gives you 10% cashback on Quidco... 2 plates £18 less your 10% = £16.20
#8
I thought you leagally had to go to an authorised place to get them done and show loads of details, logbook/MOT etc

didn't the law change a couple of years ago?
#9
I got mine done from a local plate, i had fancy plates made up.

Star background, 3D lettering, pink border, and my name on the plate itself - instead of all the **** labelling.

Hey, i bought a private plate, may aswell go the whole hog.
And my plate is 100% legal i must add!

£18 and were done in an hour - try your local places :)

It isn't legal if it doesn't have the BS markings and the suppliers details on it.

no not a "shame", more of a "surprise"

I don't know if it's a surprise . I saw an older car with a different
number on the front to the back. When I pointed it out to the bloke
he seemed unperturbed.
#15
cant you just go to your local decent market and get 2 for 15 quid? every local market near me has someone doing plates
#16

As i just said, well see.
I know there legal.

And, if they were so blatently illegal, why didnt the copper who was behind me just today pull me?
Hmmmm, go figure!

If they were illegal im sure id have found out by now, ive had my plates on for well over 6 months.

Least im not trying to make my plates something there not by putting screws in akward illegal plates, you can clearly see what my reg is.

Also, i have a recipet for the work, so in the case i do get pulled, ill be more than happy to provide it so the place that did it will also get rapped on the knuckles, but, strangley enough, since there not illegal, this wont happen.

joshanna ... you quoted .. 'We'll see, as i know there not illegal.' ,then 3 minutes later ...'As i just said, well see.
I know there illegal.' .....

hmmm , i'm confussed . do you actually know either way ?? just because the police didnt pull you today doesnt necessarily mean that your plates are legal , what if he was following the car in front of you or making his way to the chippy for his tea and couldnt be arsed pulling you for a petty offence ... ever thought of that ???
whoever sold you the plates hasnt committed any offence as hes not driving around with the plates attached to his car on the public highway , that'd be you who is doing that.
selling plates that arent road legal isnt an offence at all as they can be used for off road / private grounds for show use etc..
#21
I made them aware the plates were for road used, as i asked if they were legal before commiting to purchase them.

As for you lot trying to tell me there illegal, how would you know without seeing them.

For the record, ive seen alot of plates, with playboy bunnies etc in the plates background, which is the same as what i have just a different design, hmmmm, we cant all run round with illegal plates can we.

Hmmm.

And, ill go back and edit my posts, as i simply did a grammer error.
I know there 100% legal.
#22
3d lettering is definately legal - its the curly writing stuff that is illegal and any other variant from the standard or 3d lettering , i know that for sure ... i am unsure however whether the star background is legal though ... i thought any background was illegal unless it was plain , i know the honeycomb backgrounds are illegal as these cannot be picked up on the speed cameras .. anyone know any different ?
#23
I also have 3d lettering. But in just standard font.

Im not trying to pick a fight if it appears that way.

Im just annoyed people are telling me my plates are illegal when i know there not :(

Sorry but these plates will be illegal

Here is the law in black and white

http://www.opsi.gov.uk/SI/si2001/20010561.htm

Your plates will fail an MOT and they will fail on various accounts including text, background and not including the BS no that the plate complies to or details of the supplier.

The fact that you have a receipt means very little. The responsibility is yours to ensure your number plates are legal.

I know there 100% legal.

i remember when my missus was in spain she brought back a small samurai sword from a martial arts shop in majorca many years ago . she asked the shopkeeper if it was legal to bring it back to the uk , they said 'yeah , of course it is' and she bought it - she was a lot younger then and much more nieve (which is probably spelt wrong) but she did actually manage to get thru customs okay and get it home for me .... more good luck than anything else i guess but i dont think a verbal conversation would confirm much , i'd want it in writing personally , unless i knew the exact laws or what is and isnt allowed.

arent those laws mainly applicable to cars registered after 2001 ?

Joshanna
Comments noted but, again, it is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy and legal. The fact that it has an MOT is neither here or there as some people take 'show' plates off cars prior to an MOT and then put them back on afterwards. I'm not suggesting that you did this but, the MOT tester may argue this was the case if (and its a big if) the police decided to take any action against you or the supplier. Like the poster above states these 'show' plates are not illegal to supply and its innocent punters like yourself that bear the brunt of any errors or misunderstandings.

I also believe that nowadays you have to be registered with the DVLA to supply number plates full details here

http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/otherbusinesses/numberplatesuppliers/theregisterofnumberplatesuppliers.htm

If your supplier isn't on this register chances are the number plate is illegal.

No

It includes cars pre 2001 with new number plates fitted after that date!

the way they get away with the placing of numbers letters etc is by saying they are show plates, it does stipulate when they arrive they are only to be used for shows, but i can say i have had a private plate for years and my spacing is not excate but not to far out and have never had a problem with them,

saying that now i will get stopped in the morning!!! :)
