I'm going with a few mates to this years Oktoberfest in Munich for the first time. We've looked into getting tickets for the various beer tents but apparently you need 10+ people in your group to be able to make a reservation. We've only got 5. Does anybody have any advice on how to make the most of the trip and ensure we get into the tents each day?

Thanks

Yes, you should live a slow boring life with a family that hates you and also go to church every Sunday to be told how to live and how you should feel guilty for banging one out to that picture of that celeb.

Then when you become 50 and life had mainly passed you by you can get a smug satisfaction from telling random folk on the internet to vote Tory, behave and comply and of course not drink.

Because my friend that is the true meaning of happiness. (_;)

All the breweries at the Oktoberfest have websites where you can book. I have booked many times for groups less than ten. Though I haven't been for a few years. I tend to do the Stuttgart one now which is also a massive event but hotels, eye have been cheaper. Check out the web sites. Usually the price includes a few beers and a meal. So it might not be out of the question to book more places as you will certainly drink the beer and a few extra meals can be spread around.

I've been 6 times over the last 20 years. if you're going 1st weekend. get there early Saturday morning 8 ish. head to the hoffbrau tent there's standing areas in the centre and get settled. the first beers won't be served until noon. so take a pack of cards. much later than 8/9 and you won't get in. if your going over the week days you'll find it easier to get seating, weekends generally are busier but the locals are mostly very friendly. if you're with a back packing camping trip, I recommend Andez monastery. which they usually throw in as part of the package. I'm very jealous, I'll have to wait another year.

Get there at 8 in the morning? On the first day? The first day is best avoided. As is the first week even. You don't want to stand. Most tents dont allow it. Without seats its very tricky. If you are say a couple then you can often squeeze on tables that are not full. Drinking doesnt start till gone midday and you can get seats on weekdays during afternoons but would have to vacate them when the booked people arrive.

Would you be able to provide any links? All the websites I've looked at don't have an option for groups less than 8 or so.
Thanks

Sorry - had a quick look at beer tent companies - and yes they have all changed to this minimum group size thing. I used to live in Munich and would go and get the tickets in advance in person with none of this s**t.

Check this out :

http://www.bigboytravel.com/europe/germany/munich/oktoberfest/how-to-get-table-reservations/booking-cost/

looks useful.

I'll be honest if you turn up as a couple you might get lucky later in the evening but when I went without bookings in a similar sized group to yours of an evening it was impossible to get in unless you split up. Day times was far less of a problem. So thereafter we always booked

Might be worth advertising - see if you can find another group who want to go???? Bl**dy pain to organise but without bookings you spend your time just hunting around.

Day times in the week were never a problem though.

The funny thing is, I have one and it'll be a lot longer than yours. Crazy you don't need alcohol to have fun right!

I'm actually a Labour supporter, don't go to church and definitely don't live a boring life. I travel a lot, and don't see any problems with celebrity pictures and whatever people do with them (?)

However, there's no denying that alcohol is just poisoning yourself for the sake of a good time and a headache in the morning (which is your body rejecting it). Pass.

But in reality the world doesn't work like that, no guarantees that not consuming alcohol will lead to a longer life. Statistical probability perhaps, but no guarantee.

And maybe you don't need alcohol to have fun, but then you don't need trainers to run a marathon but it ******* helps!
