Hi Everybody,

I wonder if anybody could help me with some suggestion, I need to get the engine oil changed for my car (Honda Civic 97).Local Bosch garage has quoted me £40 including oil. Do you think it is a good price. I do have my own engine oil but they say they provide their own.

Could it be any better than £40? I live in Grimsby.

I will really appreciate any help at all and rep will be added for any helpful replies.

Best Regards

Well if they throw the oil and the oil filter then thats ok. But make sure you ask what oil they are going to use. But 40 pound is not that Bad considering Castrol oil costs about 20 quid.

Really depends on the vehicle, is it a bog standard civic?

Sounds reasonable if it includes oil and filter.

If its a higher performance car it will need a fully synthetic oil like Mobil 1 which is about £45 for 4ltrs.

So it does depend on what oil they are putting into it, Mineral, Semi-synth or Fully Synth.

Another variable is the filter, OE filters usually have none returns on them to prevent back flow of crud from the filter, cheaper filters don't have this. Not the be all and end all but I always prefer fitting OE spec filters with a good oil.

Thanks for your replies guys. It is a honda civic 1.4L and they are just changing the oil not the oil filter.

Do you know if any company/garage provides the service to change the oil only? I don't wana change the oil filer at the moment.

Whaaaaaaaaaaat?

Your oil filter will contain almost half a pint of old oil in some cases, even if they take it off to empty it chances are they will burger up the seal and you will end up with an oil leak.

You really should change the oil filter!? if the oils due a change then so is the filter!

For the sake of a fiver change the filter.

 A friend of mine just told me that I don't need to change it on every oil change but I am convinced now, I will get it changed. :-D

I have a Civic myself ,and tried going on National Tyres website.

The oil itself is coming to a total of £28 without any option of filter mentioning.

Can someone tell me how to get the deal the OP got?

it depends on the model of civic as to what price, they will find it off your reg number so unless we know everyones reg we cant replicate it for you

£28 less 10% is £25.20 when u add to basket u will see it. The filter is sort of implied at this stage also (see below and call them yourself!)

Quantity Part Code Description Price Online Discount Total Price
OCMAG1 Castrol Magnatec 10W40 Semi Synthetic £28.00 -£2.80 £25.20

Engine Flush is specifically formulated to combat modern motoring issues caused by the adverse affect of extended oil drain periods.

During the long interval between oil changes, crankcase acids are produced. If left within the system when the oil is changed, these acids immediately go to work breaking down the new oil leading to the creation of lacquers and varnishes which are deposited on the oil system components such as Hydraulic Valve Lifters, Variable Valve Timing Systems and Piston Rings. These components work within very tight tolerances and any sticking due to the deposits in the oil system results in inefficient operation of the system and poor driveability.

The engine flush National Tyres and Autocare provides cleans sludge, dirt, varnish and other contaminants from the engine, whilst cleaning the Valves, Hydraulic Lifters and other oil system components. By having an engine flush on your vehicle prior to an oil and filter change it helps to improve the engine performance and keeps new oil cleaner for longer.
Engine Flush (£5.95) £0.00 £0.00
Total (inc VAT) £28.00 -£2.80 £25.20
