In a word YES you will lose out. Without shipping confirmation the buyer will claim you never sent it.
Make them pay cash or BT.

NOOOOOOOOO

Unless the buyer is happy to pay through friends and family instead of goods and services. Even then I would still avoid.

Could claim their account was hacked and it was an unauthorised transaction

He apparently cant pay cash because its for a family member or something like that. Wouldnt he beable to claim back even through BT? Cheers though

Don't do it, it's unsafe.

Ask for payment by bank transfer or better still get cash!

Would they be able to claim back through bank transfer?

Clear scam, cash only, if they say the money is in their PayPal account tell them to withdraw it, mine comes through within an hour to my bank account

What bullsh*t, to hide a purchase from a family member he be better off paying cash. Bank payment or Paypal leave a paper trail, and Paypal also gives you an email confirmation. Avoid this person.

go to his address and u will realise it's probably some rented out place or person isn't whom they seem to be.

Don't do it. Plenty of examples here of people losing their money. They may be genuine but
all the risk is for you so don't risk it. Use the other methods posted as it gives you protection

You can claim friends and family payments back no questions asked as it's not covered for the seller.

Just say that you have just read that you should never carry out gumtree transactions like this. But tell them not to worry you can still do the deal at the agreed price. So, if PayPal is still preferred it will have to be sent to the address PayPal is the one you can use in order to be protected. You can then use Royal Mail special next day pre 1pm delivery (that has to be signed for and if the customer is not in they can collect it at a convenient time that suits them from their local sorting office. Accept the that in return for PayPal's seller fees you have some protection.
Or present them with the option of cash payment on exchanging the goods at their required address in person. With PayPal you can transfer any amount of your balance to your bank and done usually within 20 minutes to an hour. That way he can withdraw the cash from his ATM whenever he likes in advance if your agreed rendezvous

As everyone has said AVOID PayPal. you won't be able to prove the phone was delivered and the buyer/scammer can get the money back and you'll lose out.
No he/she can't call back money sent by BT however do what everyone else has said and ask for cash on collection

pat yourself on the back, you've just avoided being conned

it would be a worse attempt at hiding from a family member by using paypal! avoid this deal.
