I have used PayPal without trouble for several years, but just recently had a couple of payments into my account. SO my balance shows +£xx. I thought when I made a purchase it would take it from this positive balance, but it didn't, it took the whole purchase price off my payment card. I didn't get any option to use the balance, unlike Amazon which lets you choose to use the gift cards or not.
How do I access this balance, do I have to transfer the money to my bank?
Thanks guys (and no, I won't transfer the balance to your bank!)

Hi,

You should usually get the option once you have logged in on the left hand side, it normally will bring up your usual payment method and if you click on that it should have a drop down list.

Are you sure the payments in your account are not in a pending balance? Are they actually withdraw able?

Is the balance, shown as 'Pending Balance'?. Some payments will take 21 days to clear and only after that you can use it for purchases.

If you try and open a new account using the same address and same IP you're likely going to get the same issue. You need to get in contact with them to resolve an outstanding issues, I know this can be a pain but it is the only real way to resolve the issue.

With regards to the OP's question, give them a call. PayPal are very easy to get in contact with. It would take 2 minutes, probably less time than it took to write the question.

Ok, thanks for that. Just thought I may be missing something obvious. Not a fortune, but I expected it to be used -much like Amazon do with their gift card credits.

Under normal circumstances it does use the balance first and then the remaining outstanding balance is charged to your card. I am unsure why it hasn't on this occasion which I why I suggested asking PayPal.
