Hi There,
I hope you all had a good Christmas. I am in search of some techincal expertise. I am currently in the process of trying to build a gaming PC. A few of the parts have been given to me and some I have brought myself.
Can anyone recommend which ram I should get for this configuration? Also I am looking at cases but not sure which one would be best. I don't really want to spend too much on the case but am aware that you have to buy ones that your components are compatible with.
Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments so far. I really do appreciate it.
I'm going to get myself a new motherboard.
Was wondering which one is better out of these two?https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B012D7HBTA/?tag=ho01f-21https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01ARORJF2/?tag=ho01f-21
Thanks in advance.

The second board the more expensive one supports 4 ram slots and is a bit better but I'd save money and go for the other one as it'll do everything you want still and its a very good board but that's just my opinion

Firstly you'll need to change the mobo if you want that CPU as it won't fit. Any ram will do as long as it's supported such as ddr3 or ddr4 and supports the slot. That board only supports ddr3 as well

You have a 1150 board with a 1151 CPU, won't fit.

Good job the motherboard was donated and I didn't spend any money on it. Do you guys have any recommendations for motherboard?

It would be cheaper to swap the CPU for an i5-4690k, and you wouldn't see much performance difference if you're not using the GPU part of it.

In terms of case you'll need a fairly large one with for that big ATX motherboard, tall CPU cooler and long graphics card. Generally for compatibility you need to check motherboard form factor compatibility (it needs to take ATX boards), CPU cooler height (it needs to take that 158mm tall cooler) and graphics card length (308mm). Which one you pick is down to personal preference, it's only a box.

Memory-wise if you do keep that motherboard you're looking at two sticks of DDR3. How much depends on what you're else doing with the machine, but 8GB or 16GB in total are the most common amounts. Buy whatever is cheapest speed-wise, typically DDR3-1600 or DDR3-1866.

If this is for stuff other than gaming then it's worth considering adding a 240GB+ SSD to that list.

Is there a reason you want to have a 1TB harddrive in there? Those drives offer awful performance and awful TB/£ value, and aren't much good for anything, unless you need a few hundred gigs of storage on a very tight budget.

Keep the motherboard and change the CPU for an i5 4690k. Performance is very similar.
For ram either 8gb or 16gb of DDR3, and for the case I'd recommend the NZXT S340.

Fractal Design R4... never looked back since. R5 has been released too now but pricey

I'd rather get a new mobo as that mobo isn't the best and also ddr3 isn't the best. Cost effective it would be better to buy a mobo and ddr4 ram than a new CPU.
