Some of the games I got won't display on my TV and but I can hear it, on my TV it says change the PC settings but I can't because all I get is a black screen and have to hold down the power button to shut it down. I try to go task manager and again can't see nor pressing the windows button lets me see what's going on. For example Shadow of Mordor and Outlast won't display but games like Skyrim will and Oblivion will. Is it a case of me getting a new TV or I really do need to get a monitor to play them? Thanks for the help!

Probably something to do with refresh rates / resolution when launching games.

Can you set a forced resolution / refresh rate in your graphics control panel? If there's an option to start the games as borderless windows this may help also.

I was just about to get one of those steam link up things but will that help at all?

I'm not too sure, I haven't seen anything there to say it will

It will be the games default resolution, a proper monitor would realise this and adjust its self, hence why you should use a monitor and not a TV

So buying the steam link will be pointless then :( fair enough then saves me money

Seems your TV is a game snob.

Yeah I lowered the resolution and all I get is unsupported signal change your pc output which I did and made no difference at all. Annoying... Thanks anyway guys

You need to adjust the settings in control panel to accept the tv as a monitor, if it still does it, your graphics card isn't up to the job

It does sound like a timing issue. A steam link would probably work, but it's not exactly the smoothest experience.

A better solution is to set games to borderless fullscreen mode as that uses the desktop timings. I believe there are one or two utilities out there to force it for games that don't have a way to adjust it in a utility/config file without launching the game.

Have you read the manual for the TV to make sure there isn't a PC mode or similar? Which model is it?

TV screen refresh is also a factor, even if you get the screen resolution right, if the PC is trying to refresh it too often, the TV will refuse to work.

You need to dig out the TV user manual (RTFM), find what the limits are, and set the PC GFX card to use those limits.

Depending on the TV, it might be as low as 24 frames per second., or as high as 60.

Because the TV was given to us back in 2010 it is more than likely too old to run things in it. I don't even know what model number it is which is annoying because the is nothing in the back of the TV itself. All I know is a Sony Bravia which doesn't help much at all I know.

1. What graphics card do you have?
2. How are you connecting the TV to the PC?
3.what are you using to run games on, I.e via steam.

1. From what I've been told the graphics card is on the motherboard Intel Pentium CPU J2900
2. Been connecting it through a DVI cable since it doesn't have a HDMI on the computer
3. Shadow of Mordow and Outlast was two of them

This is the piece of crap I got https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-Desktop-Pentium-Integrated-Graphics/dp/B00O8SEA9M

And now I have another problem, I used to have it to be 1280 x 720 and now since I changed the resolution to a lower setting and it won't go back to it. Its stuck at 1024 x 768 and if I try to change it back to the higher I get the unsupported signal change your pc output. I'm just full of rage right now and giving up with this pc.

Sounds like you have an edid problem. Have a look online about capturing an edid and then write your own graphics driver for the tv.
